Could Self-Love Really Be The Answer?

August 10, 2019 | Renée Fishman

I love me image

Maybe it really all does come down to self-love.

It sounds hokey to talk about self-love.

What does that even mean?
Can the answer to life’s complex problems really be found in self-love?
Can it be that simple?

What if it can?

What is Self-Love?

Self love emerges from a web of related states of being, including:

  • Self-worth
  • Self-acceptance
  • Self-trust

Self-love involves awareness of how you treat yourself, and practices including

  • Self-care
  • Self-compassion
  • Self-kindness

Self-Love in This Moment

When you love yourself as you are in this moment, it means you accept yourself as you are in this moment.

Not a past version of yourself, the person who once looked a certain way or did certain things.

Not a future version of yourself, the version of yourself you’ll be when you achieve the next goal, lose the weight, find the partner, get the promotion, or whatever else is on your radar.

I love myself now.

Now, as you are. In this moment.

Effects of Self-Love

Consider what happens when we love ourselves.

Consider the effect that has on those around us.

How we view others is a reflection of how we view ourselves.

How we speak to others echoes how we speak to ourselves.

The degree to which we can trust others, or offer kindness and compassion to others, is a mirror of our self-trust, self-kindness, and self-compassion.

I love myself now.

What if it really is that simple?
