For over a decade, I’ve taught clients and students how to create a consistent morning routine that prioritizes their needs.
One of the biggest obstacles they have in this process is their obligations to others.
Clients inevitably tell me that they must be available for kids, spouses, their own clients, and others who depend on them.
They believe this to be true. And to some extent, it may be. If you’re in a service role, you must serve your clients. This means being responsive to needs.
But being responsive to clients doesn’t mean that you must be always available or accessible to them.
In fact, if your job is in service to others, it’s even more important to create space for your own routines.
You can’t serve from an empty cup.
You need time to recharge yourself so that you can be responsive to their needs. When you start your day putting out fires and handling client issues. you live in reaction mode.
No effective service can come from reactive mode.
Self-care is the pre-requisite to service.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
