The Vision and Mission for My Meadow Report
This project has been in “development” (aka “in my head”) for a long time, and I’m excited to finally have it up – even if especially because it is a bit rough around the edges. I am embracing imperfection!
I have a lot to share on a wide range of topics, and while it may be a little bare-bones at the moment, I’m just getting started. I anticipate some great things will be happening in this space — things that you don’t want to miss.
As a recovering perfectionist, I am especially excited to be putting something out there that isn’t perfect. There is no greater fear than hitting the publish button to send your thoughts and ideas out into the world for everyone to read and judge (and we all judge, it’s just part of life). It has taken me some time (ok, a lot of time) to let go of my need to control every aspect of this process.
I have finally reached the point where my desire to share experiences and thoughts that may help others outweighed my desire to have every pixel and sentence be perfect. So this is not — and will not be — perfect.
What it is, and what it will continue to be, is a work-in-progress.
Aren’t we all?
I am implementing, and there will be iterations to come. I hope you will hang around for those, because that’s where it will be getting good.
The Juice is in the Journey
I set out on a path to a destination, and every day I discover new detours. Sometimes I discover them after I’ve taken them. Sometimes I discover them in advance and consciously decide to take them. And while it’s true that “all roads lead somewhere,” I spent too many years focused only on the destination, and not enough time focused on the path.
A few years ago I had an insight — a moment of clarity and awareness, a breakthrough — that the relentless focus on the destination might be contributing to my feeling unfulfilled in life. And in that moment I realized that the juice — the goodness to be squeezed out of life — lies not in the reaching of my desired destination, but in the journey I take to that destination.
And this, friends, gets to the central theme for what I plan to explore here: “the juice is in the journey.”
Life serves us lessons in our successes and our failures, and I try to extract them. This is a place to explore and reflect on the journey, the lessons learned, and the lessons I’m resisting. It’s going to be real, because, well, that’s who I am.
Part of my purpose is to help others see the patterns in the road and discover the lessons. I have reached the point where I realized that perhaps some of my expereinces and the crazy that goes on in my head can help others. I hope that you’ll find some nuggets in what I share that you can apply to your life.
I also hope that you will be inspired to share some of your own journeys, so that I may learn from you. Speaking into a vacuum of the interwebs is not my idea of fun… I much prefer a conversation.
A friend once told me that we teach the lesson that we most need to learn. I suppose that’s what I’m trying to do here.
I hope you will get on board for the journey. Agree with me. Disagree with me. Challenge me. Encourage me.
Let’s learn from and teach each other.
And let’s squeeze all the juice we can out of this journey.
