Mercury in Cancer: Talk About Your Feelings

June 1, 2026 | Renée Fishman

When I was in high school, I got frequent stomach aches and headaches. Once I graduated, they miraculously went away.

Many years later, at the start of my career as a lawyer, I again got frequent stomach aches and headaches. Once again, the symptoms went away when I changed my job and my environment.

In both cases, my body was saying: this is not aligned.

Our bodies speak to us all the time; the problem is that we often don’t know how to listen — or what to listen for.

When the planet Mercury transits the sign of Cancer (June 1-August 9) it reminds us to pay attention to how our bodies speak to us — and to listen to that felt sense.

Mercury is the planet of communication. Among other things, it represents how we speak and listen, and what we speak about.

The way planets function is governed by the sign they are in.

In Gemini, Mercury was the social butterfly, spreading ideas and gathering data.

In Cancer, Mercury moves from thinking to feeling: it brings emotional intelligence and awareness, and taps into the body’s felt sense.

Mercury in Cancer caress less about the data and analysis. It wants to talk about how it feels, and how the feelings show up in the body.

This is a time to pay attention to how your body is responding to different situations, and take its needs seriously.
