From the moment we open our eyes every morning until we close them at night, we rely on our sense of vision above all else to navigate the world.
Although our other senses help out, most of us are primarily sight-dominant.
Senses are like muscles: use them or lose them.
We can strengthen our other senses by closing the eyes and bringing awareness to the rest of our sensory experience.
The following poem is a meditation on the sensory experience. You can think of it as a workout plan for your senses.
How to Strengthen Your Senses
attune your senses
to the world that’s around you
beyond what you see
notice all the scents
inhale the perfumes of life
wafting in the air
pleasure your palette
and awaken your taste buds
with bold new flavors
receive the sweet sounds
that are floating around you
they tickle your ears
feel the vibrations
from deep below the surface
that moves you to dance
rest your feet on earth
feel the textures of your space
create with your hands
commune with yourself
hear the still small voice within
let it guide you home
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
