Mars in Taurus: A Slow Burn

May 18, 2026 | Renée Fishman

People take action in different ways.

Some people are quick to initiate, but flame out fast. The moment they see a shinier object or a newer method, they switch gears.

They have a lot of starter fluid but they don’t have kindling for a sustainable fire.

Other people start slower, but sustain their efforts better over time. What they lack in “quick start” energy they make up for with persistence and endurance.

They’ll keep going for as long as it takes to get the job done right. This is ”slow burn” energy.

Of course, you might be anywhere on this spectrum.

In astrology, Mars represents how we take action. And the sign where Mars is located speaks to the nature of our action style.

The first type of person is the archetype of Mars in its home sign of Aries. Mars in Aries is fueled by the spark, quick to initiate, but also quick to flame out or switch gears.

The second type of person is the archetype of Mars in Taurus.

Mars in Taurus is traditionally said to be in its detriment, as Taurus is opposite Mars’ other home sign of Scorpio. Mars likes to move fast, and Taurus is a place known for being slow and plodding.

But sometimes planets in detriment find a sort of superpower. Don’t underestimate Mars in Taurus.

Mars in Taurus combines Mars’s drive and determination with Taurus’ patience and persistence.

This is a placement that may be slower to start than we ideally want to be, but once it gets started, watch out. Mars in Taurus has a slow burn.

While Mars is in Taurus (May 18-June 28, 2026), we value action that prioritizes sustainability over speed, quality over quantity, and tangible results over abstract ideas.

When you’re inclined to rush, remember that slow and steady wins the race.
