How do you maintain your grounding in a noisy and chaotic world?
It’s easy to lose your center when distraction and chaos are reigning all around you.
We often find ourselves reactive to the demands on our time and attention, which can lead to resentment for the people who depend on us.
When life is in chaos, its easy to get distracted with daydreams of exotic vacations and going off the grid. But you don’t need to travel far. With a little more intention and some practice, you can find your stillness and remain grounded even as the world moves dynamically around you.
Here are three places to install this stillness into your day.
(1) First Thing in the Morning
Starting every day away from email, phone, and social media can help you start your day grounded and centered. Instead of rushing from one thing to the next as you start your day, barely aware of where you are, you can begin with intention.
(2) Between Appointments and Meetings
Scheduling back-to-back meetings is like engineering an attack on your nervous system. When you plan your schedule, block space for buffer time between meetings — even if it’s just 5 minutes.
This is not time for your email or social media break. Instead, use this time for a quick walk or to sit in silence for a few minutes. You’ll be amazed at how even just 2 minutes of sitting in stillness can energize you.
(3) At the End of Your Day
Before your head hits the pillow, give yourself some time in silence. You don’t need to close your eyes — even straightening up your room or laying out your clothes for tomorrow can help you come back to yourself when it’s done in silence.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
