The concept of energy often gets dismissed as “woo,” meaning “not real” or “not practical.”
But, in fact, it is very real, and has very practical applications for a range of activities and industries.
Here is how I like to explain it.
Imagine you walk into a room. Two people are in the room. They were previously having a conversation, but by the time you walk into the room the conversation is over.
Can you tell if they were arguing? Can you tell if the conversation was about something joyful?
I’ve presented this scenario to hundreds of people, and here’s how most people respond:
Yes. Of course you can tell.
How?
You just can, is the usual reply. You just know.
That’s energy.
When someone walks into a room with confidence, you’re picking up on their energy.
You can spot someone who is confident or in pain or depressed from across the room, without ever having a conversation with them. How? You can see it in how they move, in how they engage with the world around them, in how they focus their gaze.
That’s energy.
It’s not just people who have energy. It’s also places.
If you’ve ever walked into a space and walked back out because it “didn’t feel right,” you’ve picked up on the energy of the space.
In fact, the energy of a space is crucial because it can impact your energy.
This is why stores are carefully designed and why home staging is such an important part of selling homes. It’s why attention should be paid to the design of offices and other work spaces.
Energy impacts us on a level that we are aware of but can’t explain.
That doesn’t make it any less real or practical.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
