This week’s new moon in Libra (October 2, 2:49 pm ET) will be a solar eclipse. It will be the final of 3 eclipses in Libra and the final eclipse of 2024’s eclipse season.
The Nature of Eclipse Energy
During an eclipse, the main luminary’s light is obstructed. Eclipises are disruptive, disturbing, and disorienting. They shake us out of our rhythms, routines, and cycles, and upend the status qup.
Some of the themes associated with eclipses are;
- sudden beginnings and endings
- sudden deaths
- births
- people rising to power suddenly or falling out of power suddenly
- obscuring of all the facts or information necessary to move forward on a project
Even when you know eclipse season is coming and you’re prepared for the unexpected, what that “unexpected” thing is may surprise you.
The eclipse may not land personally for you, but it still will impact the area of your life that corresponds to the sign where the eclipse is happening.
Here are 5 ways to work with eclipse energy.
5 Ways to Work With Eclipse Energy
(1) Lay Low and Rest
First and foremost: there is nothing to do. As much as possible, let eclipse season be a time of being.
Think about how you move in a sudden power outage: you don’t make drastic moves, and you don’t move quickly.
Eclipses are like a power outage in the cosmos. The power is unstable and ungrounded. In times of instability, it’s crucial to maintain grounding. Get as much rest as possible. Take it easy on your body. Lay low.
Connect yourself to the earth.
Nourish your nervous system.
(2) Explore Your Shadows
Whatever we don’t acknowledge has a way of controlling our behaviors from below. Eclipse season, and the days around an eclipse, are a potent time to explore what’s in shadow that might be controlling your actions — especially in the area of life where the eclipse is happening.
- What parts of yourself have you suppressed?
- What modes of being do you discount?
- What emotions do you push away?
This is the time to bring things to the surface, where you can deal with them on a conscious level and give yourself the power of choice.
(3) Avoid Manifesting
During eclipses, the power source is unstable.
We want what we build and create to be based on a solid foundation, so this is not a time for “manifesting” rituals.
Although eclipses can mark times of beginnings and endings, they can take longer to unfold. Eclipse cycles are spans of 18 months, so the story needs time to weave.
Instead of rushing yourself into the future, be a witness to what is happening in your life, the messages you’re receiving through those events, and where it is directing you.
(4) Journal
Take pen to paper, set a timer for 10 minutes, and free write a stream of consciousness. Or record a voice memo.
When we allow ourselves the freedom to speak or write without a prompt, we open up a channel to receive new insights. Sometimes an eclipse shows us the seed of something that later turns into something bigger. We may not know it at the time; we can only see it when we look backward.
Recording what is moving through you on that day gives you something to look back at. You’ll be able to pinpoint it to the eclipse.
(5) Practice Mindful Movement
Engage in mindful movement practices to move the energy through your body and ground yourself. Practice slow flow yoga, yin yoga, and yoga nidra.
Meditate. Take in a sound bath.
Listen deeply to what your body is telling you — it holds more wisdom and answers than your mind.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
