Today, Mars, now in its home sign of Scorpio, forms a trine aspect to Saturn in Pisces. This is an aspect that can be very helpful for making meaningful progress on long-term projects.
Before we get there, however, a slight detour to clarify a point about Mars and Saturn, and how we embody them.
Nothing is Binary
In astrology, Mars and Saturn are known as the “malefic” planets. Today’s trine is a good example of why labels in general aren’t constructive:
Nothing is all bad or all good. Everything exists on a spectrum.
The planets represent archetypes, all of which exist within us. If we’re using astrology as a lens for self-understanding, it’s important to recognize all of the archetypes that exist within us, and the way they come forward or recess into the background.
We hold multitudes. We contradict ourselves. We have inner conflicts.
That’s the nature of being human. It’s a feature, not a flaw.
Although we might like to think of ourselves as being “one type” or another, no single archetype defines us. Our task is to get to know all of our parts, even the “malefic” parts, and to embrace them all into our being.
Ok. Back to today’s helpful astrology and what we can learn from it.
Mars and Saturn: Desire and Time
Mars represents our desires, drive, and willpower. It correlates to how we initiate and sustain action, and how we get what we want.
Saturn represents structure and time. It is the teacher within us, and it teaches us how to work toward things that take a long time to manifest.
Despite their reputation as being “hard” planets, Mars and Saturn have positive and helpful attributes.
A trine is a triangle, which is the foundational shape of nature. It’s a supportive aspect.
Mars trine Saturn is one of the best aspects to teach us about how to make progress over the long term. We had this trine earlier this year when Mars was in Cancer.
But planets operate differently in different signs. Mars in Cancer was in the sign of its fall, where it didn’t have its best resources.
As Mars in Scorpio trines Saturn in Pisces, it’s doing so from a more empowered position that can help us make meaningful progress towards a long-term goal.
5 Tips to Sustain Persistence Without BurningOut:
(1) Get Strategic
Its other home sign is Aries, and that’s a very different Mars. Mars in Aries is impulsive and aggressive. It’s the firey warrior planet, quick to ignite action but just as quick to burn out.
In the fixed water sign of Scorpio, Mars is strategic. Scorpio Mars may not take immediate action, but it takes definitive action. It plans its path and efforts in advance. It waits with patience for the right time to move, and then it does so with precision.
(2) Go Deep
Scorpio is a sign of depth, and with Mars here it encourages us to get clear on what’s really driving our desires.
In Scorpio, surface level “why” doesn’t cut it. We must look beneath the surface of our conscious drivers and saboteurs to identify our true motives and also to understand what really gets in our way.
Sometimes the problem you think you’re trying to solve isn’t actually the problem that needs solving. Or the tasks you think are necessary really aren’t.
Mars in Scorpio cuts through the surface layer challenge or problem to solve to understand what the real issue is. It slices away tasks that don’t really matter to focus on the essence of what needs to be done.
(3) Be Patient
Fixed signs anchor us to the season. They are known for being stubborn and immoveable — again, a characteristic that often has negative connotations but can be used in positive way.
The stubbornness of fixed signs also leads to persistence and patience.
Fixed signs are not seeking instant gratification.
Mars in Scorpio is about taking persistent action towards our goal, and being patient for the rewards of our efforts.
(4) Connect to Your Emotions
Scorpio is a water sign, and water is about the emotions. The way to power persistent and sustainable action is to connect with the emotions driving your desires and the deeper spiritual reason why you want to achieve this goal.
When we are powered by a connection to our deep desire, we can sustain action without burning out our fire.
(5) Set Limits and Boundaries
Part of the process of sustaining action and being persistent lies in knowing what not to do. Cutting out what’s not necessary and putting limits around our actions, helps us sustain our energy for the long term.
Mars in Scorpio is not rushing and hurrying around, keeping itself busy. It lies in wait. Patient, persistent, and ready to pounce when the time is right.
