Today is the 50th day, the holiday of Shavuot. We’ve been counting toward this for 7 weeks.
Shavuot means weeks. It’s agricultural significance was as the second pilgrimage holiday, a time of thanksgiving for the harvest of the summer grain.
So it’s a day of rest.
Today is a day to refrain from doing work, a day to count our blessings and celebrate our accomplishments.
