In a recent conversation with a student, she shared that she wasn’t “making progress.”
I asked her the obvious question: What do you want to make progress toward?
She was honest in admitting she didn’t know.
In less than a minute, we had identified the main issue.
At the risk of stating the obvious:
It’s hard to make progress — or feel like you’re making progress — if you not clear what you want to make progress toward.
Without clarity of vision or a direction to head toward, you might feel like you’re drifting in the ocean.
That said, clarity of vision isn’t enough.
Some people have clarity of vision but still fall adrift or find themselves sinking in the ocean of life because they aren’t fully committed to the process. They become disillusioned when they don’t see results quickly.
Feeling like they aren’t making progress fast enough can leads some people to shift gears too soon. Fledgling entrepreneurs may abandon one project or business and switch to the next idea, or give up on their ideas altogether.
To build a thriving business and meaningful life requires both clarity of vision and commitment to the process. That commitment entails — among other things — establishing boundaries to keep us on track, persistence, patience, and dedication over time, and seeking the support from teachers and mentors.
Sun, Mercury and Saturn Conjunction: Clarity and Commitment
If you feel like you’ve been drifting in the vast ocean of life, this week’s astrology offers support on both clarity and commitment, as the Sun, Mercury, and Saturn come together for a rare 3-way conjunction at 9º42’ Pisces on Wednesday, February 28.
Mercury is the messenger planet — the archetype of communication, mental acuity, solutions, data, and details. It’s also the planet of trade and commerce.
Saturn is the planet that represents structure, clarity, boundaries, and time. Saturn requires us to make and maintain commitments over the long arc of time. Saturn also represents the wise elder teacher or mentor who can show us the way.
The Sun represents our essential life force. When planets enter the heart of the Sun, it’s a special form of a conjunction known as a “cazimi.” Ancient astrologers viewed this as the planet getting refreshed and reinvigorated by the sun’s light, strengthening their powers.
All of this is happening in the sign of Pisces — the symbol of the great ocean of intuition and inspiration.
A Check-In on What You’re Learning From Saturn’s Transit Through Pisces
Pisces is notoriously formless and lacking in boundaries and structure. Saturn is still in the beginning of its transit through this amorphous water sign; it has been in Pisces for about a year, and it still has over a year left to go.
As Saturn transits a sign, it invites us to bring better structure to the area of our lives represented by the sign. So this transit also is a moment to check in on what we’ve been learning from Saturn — the wise teacher — in this area of our lives, specifically about the nature of the structure and boundaries we need here and what we’re committed to creating.
An Invitation for Clarity and Commitment
As Mercury and Saturn meet up with the Sun in this rare, 3-way conjunction in Pisces, they help us gain clarity on our projects and priorities, and commit to what we need to do to see them through to the end.
The addition of Mercury to the mix will help us gain clarity on how to use the frameworks of Saturn in Pisces moving forward:
- What structures and supports will help us commit to the priorities we’ve established?
- What boundaries do we need to establish to keep ourselves on track?
Beware of this Limited Belief About Commitment
A word of warning here: sometimes we might be hesitant to commit to one project or track our of fear that we will close off other opportunities.
Many of my clients often express their desire for “optionality” to remain open to all possibilities. They don’t want to commit to the “wrong” thing.
The problem with this approach is that when we are open to everything, we can end up with nothing. When we try to make progress on everything, we make progress on nothing. We end up drifting in the ocean instead of riding the flow of a wave.
Ironically, we open up more options when we commit to one path or project and pursue it with dedication, diligence, and devotion.
Define Your Commitments
This Saturn and Mercury cazimi offers us a pocket of time to get clear on our vision and define what we need to do to bring our highest priority projects to form.
- What are you committed to creating?
- What project is most important to you?
- What do you need to do to implement it?
- How do you want to show up for it?
- Where do you need to establish boundaries to keep you on track?
- What support do you need either in the project itself or in establishing the boundaries necessary to keep you on track?
