There are at least two different approaches to dancing. One is to learn and master prescribed steps, and the other is to let your mind go and your body follow.
April Elliott Kent
This metaphor from astrologer April Kent is a perfect example of the difference between Virgo and Pisces.
The two signs sit opposite each other on the Zodiacal wheel. They are partners aiming to the same outcome with different strategies for attaining it.
Today’s full moon in Pisces illuminates the polarity of this axis and asks us to consider how we can mediate it.
The full moon peaks at 9:36 pm ET, with the Sun at 7°25’ Virgo and the Moon at 7°25’ Pisces. On its way to opposing the Sun, the Moon will form a conjunction with Saturn, adding an energy of constraint or limitation to the mix.
Virgo/Pisces Axis: The Path to Meaning
Ultimately, Virgo and Pisces want the same thing: spiritual meaning and purpose. The way they get there, though, is vastly different.
Virgo takes an intellectual approach: formal, studied, careful. It wants to know the precise steps to take, and how and when to take them. It assumes there is a right way and a wrong way.
Virgo sets a clear and specific outcome, makes a plan, then executes the plan. As an earth sign ruled by Mercury, Virgo is practical and specific. It finds spirituality by elevating daily tasks and routines into rituals. This is the sign of sacred service and work. Virgo finds meaning in elevating its service to others by creating systems, processes, and schedules to support the daily chores and tasks beneath the work.
Pisces has dreams and fantasies. It dives into the ocean and swims under the surface heading generally toward the light, but without a pinpointed destination. This is a water sign, where feelings rule.
Pisces follows its intuition and its feelings. It goes with the flow, improvising, experimenting, and figuring it out along the way.
In the ocean of Pisces, ruled by expansive Jupiter and Neptune, the planet of illusion and dissolution, there are no boundaries.
Spirituality in Pisces is found through oneness: seeing the interconnected nature of all things. I am you and you are me.
Pisces finds meaning through connection.
The Saturn Influence: Critique and Containment
This full moon is the first lunation in Pisces since Saturn entered the oceans for a 2.5 year transit.
Saturn is the planet of structure, boundaries, and limitations. It can be a harsh critic, but it teaches us about the value of discipline and persistence over the long arc of time.
At this full moon, the Moon is just past a conjunction with Saturn, and the Sun is just past its opposition with the ringed planet. Both the conjunction and opposition to Saturn illuminate the obstacles we might face in our work and sacred service.
Combined with the tension to Virgo, this full moon is illuminating the tension between our desire for structure and flow, and the way we respond to critique, criticism, and containment.
How do you respond in the face of criticism?
Do you get discouraged and let it convince you to give up?
Do you ignore it and stay your course without even considering the merits?
Do you take it in and assess what might be relevant and worthy of considering, and adapt your approach?
Water Finds a Way to Flow
It’s the nature of water to seek a way. Water is malleable and fluid. It adapts to the shape of its container.
Even when it comes up against obstacles, water cuts a path; it finds the crevices and cracks where it can seep in. It flows between the rocks and the hard places. It can be both yielding and sharp at the same time.
As April Kent writes,
Whether in heavy traffic or on a crowded dance floor, Pisces knows that the best way to navigate the crowds is to move fluidly and gracefully, laughing when someone steps on our toes.
The invitation of this full moon in Pisces is to find fluidity and flow in the face of limitation, a way to keep moving even when faced with containment or criticism.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
