Change sneaks up on us slowly yet suddenly. We see it coming yet we are surprised when it arrives.
This is how I often feel around the time of the Fall Equinox and the start of Libra season (September 23, 2023 at 2:50 am ET).
How is it here already?
This is the time of the year when days start fading more quickly. We grieve the summer that was, we worry about the future that is yet to be. We are keenly aware of the short nature of life, our limited time here to do what we are here to do.
Both the nature of the season and the structure of the Jewish high holidays call our attention to how we have used our time and resources.
What is out of balance? Where have we gone too much to one extreme or the other?
We seek to rectify our past transgressions, find balance, and to find new harmony — all significations of Libra season.
As we let go of the past, we don’t yet know what the future will bring.
This is the liminal space, a place we tend to avoid.
The liminal space feels uncertain, hazy, unsteady. It’s a space of grieving, but also a space of possibility.
The lesson of this season is to embrace the liminality, to find home in the present moment, the NOW.
The balance we seek won’t last. It’s always shifting. But we can catch that brief moment where we find it. That moment is NOW. It’s the only place balance truly exists.
Nothing lasts forever. In letting go of what no longer serves us we create space for new things and new experiences.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
