How to Find Stability When Everything is Changing

June 19, 2020 | Renée Fishman

The universe will always revolve and evolve. The only true stability results from continual adjustment and movement with the flow. The highest art of humanity is thus to continually adjust and compensate, always motivated from the highest and most conscious values. This is the art of Temperance: to move with fluidity among the great and powerful forces of nature. — Pamela Eakins, Ph.D.

Fair to say that we are experiencing some of the “great and powerful forces of nature” this year.

You can look at what’s happening — the death, destruction, uprooting, and chaos — as a major distraction. If you choose, you can seek to pinpoint who is to blame for this situation. Point fingers at the politicians, policies, and people in power that led us to this moment.

Someone needs to be responsible for this, right?

That’s a way.

Or, there’s a different way.

You can view this time as an extraordinary gift that we are being given. A precious moment in time where get the opportunity to revisit our values, individually and collectively. We get to check in on whether we’ve been living in a way that is aligned with those values.

We can shift our values and/or how we are living to come into alignment.

Instead of pointing fingers outward in blame, you can shine a light inward. Not to ruminate on the past, but to examine yourself now, in the present, and take it into the future.

How do you choose to respond to what is happening?

Responsibility = the ability to respond.

The paradox of stability is that it comes from movement: constantly, continuously, and consciously adjusting to what is evolving around us, rather than reacting to it.

Happiness is achieved through alleviating conflict by consciously mingling (or coming to terms with) elements which appear to be contradictory. — Pamela Eakins

What’s happening in the world right now is not a temporary distraction, from which we will return to “normal.” It’s a restructuring of the status quo.

Learning how to respond is crucial.

Join me tomorrow for a mid-year reset. Among other things, we’ll dive into how to harness the gifts from the first half of the year, and consciously choose what to take with us into the future. And we’ll move through it all, so you can start the second half of the year from a place of stability.
