As the Sun meets up with Saturn in Aries (March 25, 2026, 4:51 AM ET, 4º43’), it will illuminate the systems and structures and inner critic that are holding us back from our impulse to explore and experiment. But it can also provide some insights about what structures will help you leap forward into the unknown.
Saturn in Aries Energy
Saturn in Aries is said to be in the sign of its “fall” or “depression” — which means the archetypal energy of Saturn is a mismatch for the environment of Aries.
Let’s look at why that is:
Aries: Impulsivity and Youth
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. The inception. Beginnings.
It’s not just about “starting” — it’s about starting new. Leaving the past behind. Blank slate.
What we start here doesn’t necessarily have a plan. We adjust on the fly.
Aries is a place where we go with the impulse and instinct and we change when the instinct changes.
This is the Fool archetype in the Tarot: unencumbered by the past and not concerned with the consequences in the future.
It’s the sign of youth.
If I were putting a sign on the door of Aries with a motto that describes its energy, some contenders would be:
- Leap before you look.
- Fire, aim, ready.
- Act now, worry about consequences later. Or not at all.
- We’re here for a good time, not a long time
- Focus on the now.
Saturn: Old Age, Patience, Structure
Saturn is the archetype of the disciplinarian and the task master. Saturn is all about patience to build something over the long span of time. It likes rules and order and structure.
Saturn is also all about tradition. It has reverence for the past. It represents the wise elder.
Saturn considers the long-term consequences. It assesses and seeks to mitigate risk.
Saturn is considered to be in the sign of its “fall” in Aries.
Saturn in Aries is like taking someone who thrives in a place of rules, order, structure, who analyzes risk and anticipates consequences of their actions, who values patience and things that take time, and who tries to uphold tradition, and putting them in an environment where none of that matters.
Not only “none of that matters” — but the environment is hostile to those values.
It’s like taking an athlete who runs slowly and is built for marathons and having them compete in a 100 meter race.
Can the marathoner run 100 meters? Of course. Running is running.
But the 100 meter race doesn’t create the ideal conditions for the marathoner to use the full breadth and depth of its skills and talents. It’s not going to perform at its best.
Aries as an environment just isn’t suited to the way Saturn moves best. It’s antithetical to it.
The Work of Saturn in Aries
The work of Saturn in Aries is for Saturn to learn how to adapt enough to the environment of Aries to do what it needs to do.
For example, Saturn in its extreme can be overly reticent to act, waiting for the perfect plan or moving too slowly to catch the moment.
If it stays this way in Aries, that creates inner tension that can be self-destructive, like trying to drive with your foot on the gas and the brake at the same time.
A little more impulsiveness, and a little less concern with risk and consequences, isn’t always a bad thing.
Saturn in Aries can remind us that not everything we build needs to last forever or stand the test of time.
In the best of all worlds, Saturn in Aries can help us initiate something with enough structure to get us off the ground and get moving but without making it so rigid that we feel tied to it forever.
It can also show us where our systems and structures are no longer serving us; where they’re getting in the way.
As the Sun and Saturn meet up, these issues get illuminated for us to work with them more consciously.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
