No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man. — Heraclitus
Time is cyclical: we live in cycles of days, months, and seasons.
From our perspective on Earth, the planets circle around the map of the zodiac. The faster-moving planets will travel through each sign of the zodiac dozens of times.
And just like our own journeys around the Sun, no two transits are ever the same.
Because all planets are constantly in motion, the landscape of the sky is always shifting.
Life is About Relationships
The energy we’ll experience during any planet’s transit through a particular sign depends in part on the relationships it forms with the other planets in the sky as it moves through the sign.
These relationships are called aspects, and they are defined by the angles between two planets.
(That’s right: at its very core, astrology is the study of geometry.)
Sometimes two planets are in places where they can’t see each other; they have no relationship at all.
Sometimes two planets are in places where they can support each other; they can collaborate in harmony and create flow.
Other times, planets exist in a relationship of friction or tension.
Depending on their aspect, the same two planets can combine for constructive or destructive purposes.
When you change the angle between planets you change their relationship.
Mars in Libra
Mars, the Warrior, and the planet that signifies our drive, willpower, and how we take action, has just entered Libra.
Read more about Mars in Libra energy.
Mars has a 2-year cycle, so this is not a “major move” — especially in the context of the other planetary moves of 2025.
But those other planetary moves set the stage for a very different experience this time around.
Mars in Libra 2023
The last time Mars was in Libra was from late August to October of 2023.
- Pluto was at the end of Capricorn
- Uranus and Jupiter were in Taurus
- Neptune and Saturn were in Pisces
- the South Node had just entered Libra
- Chiron was in Aries
Libra has no traditional connection to either Taurus or Pisces, which means that back in 2023, Mars had no interaction with Uranus, Jupiter, Saturn, or Neptune.
The most challenging moment of Mars’ last transit came toward the end of its time in Libra, when Mars formed a square to Pluto while it was next to the South Node eclipse point.
A square is an aspect of friction, and a friction between Mars and Pluto tends to manifest as violence — which is what happened.
A Changed Landscape
With the major planetary shifts of 2025 now in place, Mars’ transit through Libra happens within the context of a vastly changed landscape.
- Saturn, Neptune, and Chiron in Aries
- Uranus in Gemini
- Pluto in Aquarius
- Jupiter in Cancer
Of minor significance, Mercury is in Leo, and Venus will meet up with Mars from Leo.
This is an entirely different river.
And this time around, Mars is talking to everyone.
The Major Energies of Mars in Libra in 2025
Here’s a brief overview of the major energies to expect, with the dates to mark on your calendar:
- Mars in Libra trine Uranus in Gemini (August 8, 2:45 PM ET, 1º07’): Mars and Uranus can bring explosion or innovation, depending on their aspect. The first aspect that Mars makes from Libra is a supportive and harmonic trine to Uranus in Gemini. Libra and Gemini are both air signs, so there is natural affinity. This is innovative energy that might harbor a surprise. Let yourself experiment with a new way of getting things done. You’ll definitely need it with what’s coming later that day.
- Mars in Libra opposing Saturn in Aries (August 8, 10:52 PM ET, 1º20’): No sugarcoating here: an opposition between the two malefic planets is one of the most challenging aspects we experience. Mars is the planet of action and Saturn is the planet of restrictions. This is a tug of war, a standoff between two competing ideologies. It’s the drive to go forward with speed running into a brick wall. Read more about Mars opposing Saturn and Neptune.
- Mars in Libra opposing Neptune in Aries (August 9, 6:13 PM ET, 1º50’): The only thing that makes running into the brick wall more painful is if you don’t see it in front of you. Neptune is the planet of fog and illusion. It obfuscates, hides, and shape shifts. This will be a test of your frustration tolerance, and an invitation to practice equanimity.
