Aquarius moon
embrace your inner rebel
go against the grain
Aquarius is a sign that speaks to innovation, especially regarding the systems in our lives. It is the sign of the rebel, the outlier, the contrarian. The one that stands outside the system, willing to go against the grain.
A system is a pattern. The only way to see the pattern, to know what needs to be disrupted and innovated, is to step outside of it. By stepping outside of the mainstream we get perspective.
A fish doesn’t know the water in which it swims until it is taken out of the water. In fact it doesn’t even know it’s in water because that’s the only environment it’s ever known. It doesn’t know there are other options.
We are similar in many respects: we don’t know the environment we are in unless we leave it and experience something different.
But leaving comes with its own challenges. We are wired to seek connection and belonging; going against the grain means risking isolation.
For this reason we instinctively hide those parts of ourselves that don’t fit the mold. We don’t only hide these parts from the world; we often hide them from ourselves. We push them aside and suppress them, believing they are bad.
To innovate requires that we be willing to step outside the mold of conformity. To speak up about where change is needed means we may ruffle feathers of those who prefer to live in the comfort of their blindness.
This requires courage, bravery, and fortitude. It requires a strong footing in your truth and a belief in your innate enoughness. It requires a rooting in your own soul.
The first step is to see where we are pushing away parts of ourselves that we have cast aside.
Today’s new moon in Aquarius invites us to look at the parts of ourselves that we have tried to push away — the inner rebel, the freak, the weirdo, the contrarian — on the belief that they are bad.
Each part of us is important. Each bears a message that must be heeded.
How can you bring compassion to those parts? How can you fully embrace them?
What do you need to have the fortitude to go against the grain?
What beliefs must you cultivate?
What truth about yourself must you own?
What parts of yourself require love and acceptance to help you feel complete within yourself?
Nobody ever changed the world by confirming to the prevailing status quo.
