This has been a potent week for new beginnings. Wednesday’s new moon was followed by a conjunction between the Sun and Mars, initiating a new 2-year action cycle.
Today Mercury and the Sun come together, initiating a new Mercury cycle. Following that, Mercury and Mars also form a conjunction.
That’s 4 conjunctions — 4 initiations — all in the sign of Libra — the sign of relationships, justice, balance, and equity.
Here are some insights into the meaning of this moment and how to work with it.
Mercury Cazimi
get still and listen
as Mercury cazimi
sends you messages
As Mercury and the Sun come together our job is to listen to the messages. Especially those that arise from within.
I remind myself that even my apparent distractions are messages. The truth is that we have no idea why we get pulled to a certain place. 95% of our actions are directed by our subconscious. Any story we have about it is one we create that makes sense to us.
Instead of driving myself crazy with why I’m being pulled somewhere I can choose instead to listen to the signs:
- What is calling to me?
- Where am I being directed?
- What ideas and thoughts are arising?
Mercury and Mars Conjunction
Mercury and Mars
unite in the Sun’s embrace
align thoughts and deeds
The Mercury/Mars conjunction is happening in alignment with the Sun.
Mercury represents our thoughts, words, ideas, and communication.
Mars is the planet of desire, decision, and action.
The Sun represents our outer self — the self that we show the world.
As Sun, Mercury, and Mars align, it speaks to an alignment of our thoughts and actions with our outer self.
And with the moon having just been in the mix and still close, our inner self is also aligning here.
I am calling all parts of myself home. Getting everyone on the same page.
Outer self and inner self. Thoughts and actions. Speech and deeds. Emotion and mindset. Body and spirit.
Not Yet Time for Action
Although Mars is always eager to take action, it is not yet the time for action.
Mercury Retrograde = Time to Review and Reflect
First, Mercury is still retrograde, which means we are still in a period of review, reflection, and recalibration.
The invitation here is to review our thoughts and words to see where we are not walking our talk.
As the Sun recharges Mercury, it’s a time of deep listening.
- What messages am I receiving?
- What messages am I being called to share?
- What ideas are being recharged and asking for my attention?
As Mercury and Mars get infused with the Sun’s energy out of view, this is our invitation to recharge our batteries and — in the spirit of Libra — examine where we need to rebalance our scales.
- Where am I out of alignment?
- What adjustments do I need to make to bring myself into alignment?
Aligned Action Over Quick Action
Second, Mars is in Libra, so it must act in Libra’s style — which is not about quick action.
Our culture tends to favor the masculine energy of Mars — we generally give outer action more weight than inner contemplation. We praise hustle and drive. The patriarchal mindset views the Mars energy as a sign of power.
In Libra, the sign of justice and careful deliberation, we must weigh both sides and consider all implications of our actions before making our move.
The warrior wields it’s sword of discernment to cut away what is extraneous or inessential.
This moment remind us that true power comes not from quick action but from aligned action.
As with our actions, so too with our speech.
Libra is ruled by beauty-seeking Venus. Here we learn that our messages have more power when they are packaged and presented in a way that makes them appealing and accessible.
Power vs Force
We might consider this moment as a lesson in power vs force. When we step back to recharge and come into alignment, we can achieve our goals with greater ease. Instead of relying on force and fire, we can rely instead on the power of aligned speech and actions.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
