Decisions in Hindsight

May 17, 2020 | Renée Fishman

Last year I embarked on journey to restore and nourish my health. It led me to move across the country for several months while I explore a wide range of healing modalities covering all the realms: physical, mental, emotional, and energetic, spiritual.

Away from my normal routines and activities, I had space in my schedule to expand my horizons. Almost every weekend I attended a training or workshop. Yoga teacher trainings. Reiki. Sound healing. Ayurveda. Cacao ceremonies. Earth rituals. Communication skills. Productivity.

My decisions on where to go and how long to stay there were guided by my highest wisdom, and may have looked capricious to many outsiders.

There were times when even I wondered why I was doing something. I had to lean into a deep well of self-trust.

Prescient Moves

Given the unfolding of events so far in 2020, these decisions look prescient, perhaps even prophetic.

Selling my home, living home-free, living each day without knowing what tomorrow might bring, rethinking the ways I do my work in the world prepared me to live in a time where life has been uprooted and the nature of uncertainty has been revealed in its fullest sense.

The work I put in and the trainings I completed are serving me well in this time, both in terms of my self-care and in my ability to offer care to others, through virtual yoga classes, energy healing, and coaching.

It’s easy now to see how necessary my journey has been, and all the ways in which the investment in myself and in my growth have and will continue to pay dividends.

It isn’t, and wasn’t, always easy to see that in the moment.

The path through life isn’t linear.

Relationships and connections sometimes can only be seen when we look backwards.

When we pause, we create space to reflect back and see how our decisions have paved our way forward. We can harvest the ways in which we wisely and presciently prepared. That harvest nourishes the well of self-trust that we will need to lean into at the next crossroads.
