Improving your listening skills starts with sharpening your hearing, and there’s a very simple thing you can do to improve this:
Close your eyes.
Our eyes are always active, from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep. The eyes are a “doing” sense. They actively take in what’s around us. And they dominate our other senses. In the yin/yang continuum, sight is yang energy.
The ears are a receptive sense, or yin energy. Notice how, when you close your eyes, you can hear without doing anything. Sounds come to you and then they fade away.
Notice how the vibration of sound doesn’t just enter through your ears. It enters through your skin. You can feel sound through your whole body.
This applies to all sounds, whether it’s a piece of music or someone talking.
Closing your eyes removes the distraction of the visual and rests the doing part of your brain, allowing you to be more open to receiving.
It will help you tune in.
