Nobody really likes disruption. But status quos aren’t meant to last forever. Just because something has been done in one way for a long time doesn’t mean it has to work like that forever.
Times change. Industries change. Markets change. People change. And so the way we do things also needs to change.
In astrology, the planet Uranus is the planet of sudden, unexpected change. Uranus disrupts. It is the rebel, the revolutionary, the renegade.
Uranus spends about 8 years transiting through each sign, bringing its renegade ways to that area of our lives. Since 2018, it’s been working its way through the sign of Taurus.
If there’s a place that doesn’t take well to change, it’s Taurus: a fixed earth sign. Taurus is our grounding: it’s the land we plant on, the foundation on which we build. Taurus is a place of sensory pleasures and comfort. It is associated with real estate, agriculture, and the financial system.
Of the four elements, earth is the only one that is fixed by nature. Air, fire, and water all have natural movement. When earth moves, it’s usually a problem: earthquakes, mudslides, avalanches, sinkholes.
Uranus’ transit through Taurus has reminded us that not all disruption of the earth is bad. After all, innovation is the art of breaking new ground.
Uranus disrupts not for its own sake, but to liberate us from the constraints of systems and structures that are no longer serving us.
On May 17, the Sun and Uranus have their annual meetup in Taurus (7:32 PM ET, 27º17’ Taurus), beginning a new cycle for Uranus. This Uranus cazimi is a moment of clarity — a fresh insight on something that needs disruption. This is their last meet up in Taurus; Uranus is ending its run here and will move into Gemini in July.
Just a few hours later, Mercury forms a square to Mars in Leo (May 18, 12:36 AM ET, 13º53’ Taurus/Leo). Mercury is the planet of communication, and Mars is the planet of action. Mercury will want to speak to the disruption that needs to happen in the Taurus area of our charts. Its aspect to Mars indicates some friction — perhaps a resistance to taking a bold stand for the disruption you know is needed at this time.
Leo is a sign of courage, and Mars in Leo — now direct and out of its post-retrograde shadow — is ready to move forward boldly into new territory.
Its time for us to harness our courage to liberate ourselves from what’s no longer working, and break new ground. This is what leadership is.
