The best productivity advice I ever received was from my grandpa, who told me:
“Take your cues from nature.”
Everything in nature — the seasons, the sun and moon, the planets, the trees and flowers, the tides — moves in cycles.
Understanding how to work with them can help us take the right action at the right time, improving our chance of success.
It’s much easier to take out a boat at high tide than it is at low tide.
Why make life harder?
When it comes to changing habits — especially breaking habits that don’t serve us — there are a few windows in the year that are more optimally suited to the task.
One of those windows is Pisces season.
Let’s break down why this is an ideal time to break habits.
What’s a Habit?
The word “habit” gets thrown around a lot as shorthand for something we want to do consistently. But that’s not actually what a “habit” is.
A habit is something we do automatically, in response to a trigger or stimulus.
Habits can be behaviors, thoughts, emotions, attitudes or beliefs.
Habits are unconscious.
Changing Habits
What we do from our unconscious is hard to change.
We can only change something once we’re aware it it.
Pisces season invites and encourages us to look within ourselves, to notice our triggers and reactions and the thoughts that underlie them.
Once we are aware of these automatic reactions, we are in a position to change them.
If you’re willing to do the hard work of creating awareness, Pisces season can be an opportunity to shed the habits that no longer serve you.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
