Practically everything we value in our culture in the name of “productivity” is an attempt to gain control over life.
Goal setting.
Time management.
Workflow processes.
Information management.
Knowledge management.
Management in general is just a more upscale word for control.
If you think about the things we try to “manage,” they are almost universally things we are trying to control.
Time. Energy. Money. Resources. Attention. Other people.
Outcomes. Processes. Our calendars.
Our bodies. Our thoughts. Our emotions.
Even our anti-productivity behaviors are versions of control.
When we’re in resistance to a situation, it’s often because we want to control how things are.
Procrastination is a form of control.
The joke is on us, of course.
We don’t have control over life and we never will.
What you seem to control only ends up controlling you.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
