Sun Opposing Neptune: How to Navigate a Foggy Day

September 20, 2024 | Renée Fishman

Despite your best intentions and efforts, you will not be “productive” every day — regardless of how you define productivity.

This is fact.

Some days, you don’t have the focus to get things done. You don’t have the capacity to hold space for others.

You might feel like you’re walking through a fog, lacking clarity of direction or purpose.

If you’re a Type-A, “get it done” person, these days can be excruciating.

And if that’s you, know that this is part of your work.

We need days like this. We need days for daydreaming, naps, aimlessness, and wandering. We need days to unplug our brains, to feel into what we’re feeling, and to just be.

Just because it’s not endorsed by our dominant culture doesn’t mean it’s not useful or necessary.

In fact, these kind of days can help us parse through things usually contained beneath the surface of our conscious awareness and tap into deeper sources of wisdom.

Our big task is to learn how to embrace these days and get comfortable with them.

Sun Opposing Neptune: Embracing the Fog

The annual opposition of the Sun and Neptune (September 20, 2024) is one of those days when we get the opportunity to practice.

Neptune is the planet of illusion and delusion. It blurs boundaries and can act like an intoxicant. Often called the God of the Seas, Neptune is right at home in Pisces, which represents the ocean.

Neptune is a slow-moving planet that doesn’t get much attention unless it’s aspecting another planet.

In opposition with the Sun in Virgo, Neptune in Pisces is like the opposite of the Virgoan qualities we tend to aspire to in our culture: planning, implementation, attention to the details.

When the Sun opposes Neptune, we might feel less focused and more worried, without being able to pinpoint the source of our anxiety and fear.

Neptune can bring disillusion and disappointment, or the proclivity to engage in daydreaming. This aspect might sow seeds of confusion or doubt, resulting in our second-guessing decisions.

The best way to navigate these types of days is to stop trying to fight the energy and learn how to embrace it.

How to Navigate the Fogginess of Sun Opposing Neptune

Here are some tangible ways to navigate the fog of Sun opposing Neptune:

  • Take short breaks as necessary.
  • Interrupt your regular routine for more rest.
  • Take naps.
  • Pause to review and reflect.
  • Sit with your emotions as they arise.
  • Listen to the little sensations that arise in your body.

Remind yourself that there is nothing “wrong” to fix. Sometimes, embracing the nebulousness of the moment can help us regain our focus and clarity faster.

What we learn by tapping into the deep wisdom within us often serves us as we move forward.

There is gold at the bottom of the ocean. Let Neptune’s energy take you there.
