On the deepest level of our unconscious, we all yearn to be seen.
It’s why a baby cries, why a toddler throws a tantrum, why billions of people share their thoughts and ideas and promote themselves on social media. In a more literal meaning, it’s why video has proliferated.
If you want your work to make a difference in the world, if you want to create a successful business, you must be visible.
And if you want to avoid the pain of being stuck, you must be willing to see your sabotaging patterns of thoughts and behavior.
Seeing What You Buried
On July 21, at 11:53 pm ET, the Sun, in the final degree of Cancer, will oppose Pluto, currently retrograde in the last degree of Capricorn.
This opposition is like a full moon: the Sun is opposite Pluto, shining a light on the Lord of the Underworld.
In one cycle of time, it’s the culmination of a seed initiated when the Sun and Pluto formed a conjunction in Capricorn on January 18, 2023.
In another cycle of time, it’s an ending of something much bigger.
Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008. This is the last time the Sun in Cancer will oppose Pluto Capricorn for centuries.
This is a death.
It is a death that can lead to rebirth.
But first, you have to look at what’s there and consciously let it go.
Issues: Transformation, Control, and Power
Pluto speaks to issues of transformation, control, and power. It excavates and exhumes, digs under the sediment for all the things we might have buried long ago.
It leaves no stone unturned, treading back and forth over each degree of a sign at least three times to do a thorough excavation.
What Lives Under the Surface?
The Cancer/Capricorn axis, among other things, deals parent/child dynamics, helplessness, power, and the past.
What keeps us stuck from moving forward are the patterns that play out from our subconscious, which originate in the family dynamic: the thoughts and beliefs we inherited, the way we respond to authority of others or ourselves, how we deal with power and power dynamics, how we try to control life.
Every interaction we have with others traces back to our early experiences with our parents and caregivers. How we saw power being wielded is how we learned whether power was “bad” or “good.” It’s how we feel about authority.
When someone else exhibits power and influence, do you feel threatened, dominated, or victimized?
When you are placed in a position of power or authority, do you hesitate to step into it or, at the other extreme, do you become autocratic and dictatorial?
When you feel powerless or like you don’t have control over a situation, do you instinctively react by blaming external people or factors?
Do you try to control people and circumstances to get your way?
What we see in others that attracts or repels us is just a projection of what’s inside of us that we’re not owning.
How to Be Seen
The only way to be fully seen is to see yourself. To see your patterns and how they sabotage you.
As the Sun opposes Pluto, it is asking us to take a deep look at ourselves: whatever issues we have buried, whatever emotions we stuff under the surface, and the patterns of how those issues and emotions play out in our lives today.
This is hard work. It requires radical honest and self-compassion. The good news is that this work helps us reclaim our power.
When we see our patterns of thoughts and behavior, we are able to make a conscious choice to change them and they lose their power over us.
This is a potent death moment, but the rebirth is on the other side.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
