Full Moon in Virgo: Get Ready for Big Change

March 6, 2023 | Renée Fishman

Change is inevitable. It occurs daily in nature, in our bodies, in the culture around us. Sometimes, it’s invisible. Other times, it is acutely noticeable even in the background.

No creatures on earth resist change more than humans. Yet there are times that force us to see the changes occurring — or the changes that we need to make.

Tomorrow’s full moon in Virgo (March 7, 2023 at 7:40 am EST) comes at a moment where the specter of change looms large.

Full moons are not points of initiation; they are moments of illumination. This full moon is illuminating a change waiting in the wings and inviting us to check in on our patterns for navigating major shifts.

The World is About to Change

Perhaps you’ve heard or read about it, but here’s a brief summary of what’s coming:

First, this is the last lunation of winter. It arrives at the end of the zodiacal year, just before the seasons are about to change.

Second, just hours after the moon peaks in her fullness, Saturn will end its 2.5 year residence in the sign of Aquarius and move into Pisces for the first time in 30 years.

Saturn is a slow moving planet that spends 2.5 to 3 years in a sign, taking 28–30 years to circle the zodiac.

Saturn changing signs is a major astrological event in any given year, let alone in a month.

If that were the only big planetary move this year, it would be a big deal.

But it’s not.

Third, in a couple of weeks, Pluto will dip into Aquarius after decades in Capricorn. It will eventually retrograde back to Capricorn before settling into Aquarius for a 2-decade residence in 2024. Pluto’s changing sign is one of the most significant astrological events of a decade, let alone a month or a year.

Illumination: How Do You Navigate Change?

At a full moon, the sun is sitting directly opposite the moon, pulling focus to the polarity of the energies of two seemingly opposite signs.

The full moon in Virgo illuminates the tension between Virgo, where the moon is, and Pisces, where the sun is.

We can see these energies as representing the two extremes in which we might deal with change.

Virgo is a practical earth sign that is all about the details and doing the hard work. It is focused, diligent, and discerning. At its extreme, it can be critical. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo is known for clear-headed analysis and articulation. Virgo energy is about planning — for every contingency, eventuality, outcome

Pisces is watery, boundary-less, hazy, and dreamy. It dissolves distinctions to forge oneness. Pisces is spiritual. Ruled by Jupiter, it harbors a deep faith and wisdom. Rather than obsessive planning, Pisces goes with the flow and trusts that all will work out in the end.

Full moons reveal to us information about ourselves

The full moon in Virgo invites us to look at how we handle change — and how we want to handle it going forward.

Check In With Yourself

Where do you fall on the Virgo/Pisces axis when it comes to navigating change?

Do you try to plan for every detail and contingency, mitigate all risk, and stay focused on the road forward while ignoring all signs — outer or inner — that it may be necessary to change your course?

Do you sit back and ride the waves, going with the flow and trusting that the universe will put you in the right place at the right time?

A Full Moon Invites You to Mediate the Polarity

Get your shit together. Build your skills. Practice your craft. Make your plan. Then release your grip and go with the flow.

As is the case at each full moon, the invitation is to mediate the polarity.

The truth about the axis of polarity between opposing signs is that they offer different ways to reach the same place, and often we need a mix of both.

We need the detail-oriented, planning energy of Virgo to chart a course forward.

Yet we also must acknowledge that we can’t plan for every contingency. Life is like baseball — we’re guaranteed to get some curveballs. Sometimes the course we’ve charted turns out not to be the best plan given world events or life circumstances.

Resilience comes from adaptability: our ability to go with the flow and change course.

When we’ve used Virgo energy to build a foundation of skills and techniques, we are better equipped to go with the flow.

The full moon is a collaboration between the sun and the moon, the moon is illuminated by the sun’s light. For us to have the peak experience of the full moon we need both the moon and the sun; the Virgo energy and the Pisces energy.

Get your shit together. Build your skills. Practice your craft. Make your plan. Then release your grip and go with the flow.
