New Moons are about beginnings: seeding intentions and looking forward. This is especially the case in a cardinal sign like Libra. Libra carries initiation energy.
And yet this year’s new moon in Libra (October 21, 2025, 8:25 am ET, 28°21’) comes in the final degrees of the sign, which makes it feel more like an ending.
It feels more retrospective.
This New Moon is a reminder that all endings are beginnings and all beginnings are endings.
A Transformation is Brewing
A new moon is an inception point in the dark. We can’t see the Moon because it is consumed by the Sun’s light.
At this new moon, the Sun and Moon are in a square — an aspect of friction — to Pluto in Aquarius. Pluto is the planet of transformation: death and rebirth. It is the archetype of subterranean activity and unconscious power dynamics.
This reinforces the story of simultaneous endings and beginnings. There’s a transformation happening beneath the surface that we can’t yet see.
What Are You Taking With You?
When a new moon comes at the end of a sign it’s an opportunity to take what you’ve learned from the Sun’s transit through the sign and use that to inform your intentions for the next season.
It’s about looking back to move forward.
The New Moon in Libra arrives one day before the Sun moves into Scorpio.
The New Moon coming so late in the Sun’s transit through Libra reminds us that it’s never too late to hit the reset button and start fresh.
In the body, Libra rules the kidneys, while Scorpio rules the excretory system. There’s a natural flow from one to the other.
One of the kidneys’ functions is to filter what we’ve taken in. It sends the nutrients into the blood stream and it sends the junk to the excretory system to discard.
With this new moon coming at the very end of Libra, just before we start Scorpio season, consider all you’ve taken in, filter what is no longer useful and set the intention to let it go during Scorpio season.
Maybe some things need to be completely discarded. Other things might be compostable.
Action: Evaluate What You’ve Learned
Consider what you’ve learned and discovered since the start of Libra season.
In true Libra fashion, you can weigh everything on the scales as you consider:
- What things weigh heavy on the scale without a comparative redeeming value?
- What things are worth their weight?
- What has value to take with you into the next chapter?
- What do you want to leave behind?
Rebalancing For the Season Ahead
One cause of burnout is that we try to apply summer energy throughout the year.
Human beings are not machines. At different seasons of the year, our bodies and brains have different energy levels.
We need different types of nourishment and stimulation. We might need to flow to a different rhythm.
Libra is often labeled as the sign of balance, but balance isn’t static — it requires constant adjustments.
Libra is also about harmony, regulation, rhythm, and timing.
Different seasons require different rhythms and cadences. The new moon in Libra invites us to consider how we need to adjust our schedules, routines, rituals, and rhythms to stay regulated as we enter the next part of this season.
We are entering the heart of Autumn, a season when the days start fading faster, darkness overtakes light, and a chill overtakes the air.
Summer’s long days give us plenty of hours for multiple activities. Hours spent outside in the sun infuse our energy.

But the schedule that you maintained during the summer will drain you if you continue at that pace into the autumn and winter.
The same thing goes for what you eat and what you wear.
The principles of Ayurveda teach that balance begins at the table: the ideal diet changes with the seasons to support harmony and regulation in the physical body.
As the weather cools, the body craves warmer and heartier foods like soups and root vegetables over crisp salads.
Bodies are not the same in every season of the year. As we head into the cooler months you might need different moisturizer for your skin, or a different shampoo.
Changing energy levels might call for adjustments to your workouts, or even the time of day when you workout.
In the Northeast United States, this is the time when you trade your light t-shirts for sweaters, sandals give way to boots, and you take your coats out from the back of the closet.
Action: Adjust Your Rhythms
Consider how you need to adjust your routines, rituals, and activities as we head into the coming season.
What changes do you need to make to your
- Activities
- Workout routine
- Diet: both what you eat and when you eat
- Self-care routine
- Sleep schedule
- Work or study schedule
- Social activities
What new rhythms will help you stay regulated as we head into the waning light?
