The words you choose have power.
What we say, to ourselves and to others, can make an impact.
Words can inflict pain and hurt. They can start wars, sow seeds of disinformation, lead to chaos and confusion.
Words can also create possibility and hope. They can forget alliances and truces. They can inform, elucidate, and heal.
The right words in the right moment can lead to sabotage or salvation.
Relationships have ended over the most basic misunderstandings. And lifelong commitments have been formed with the most simple of expressions.
But for all their power, your words fall short next to the supreme method of communication: your actions.
Your words matter, but your actions matter more.
Ultimately, it is what you do that determines the impact of your message.
When teaching others, your most effective modality is your actions. What you teach through doing. How you show up. What others can see.
If you preach kindness and civility but you show up as a jerk, people will tune you out.
If you preach the importance of family, but you spend your free time away from yours, they’ll come to see you as a hypocrite and won’t respect you.
When it comes to making an impact in this world, actions are more powerful than words.
How do you walk your talk?
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
