Full Moon in Scorpio: Surface Your Shadows to Reclaim Your Power

April 23, 2024 | Renée Fishman

Today’s full moon in Scorpion invites us to feel everything and get to the root of our emotions so we can clear the energetic blocks that are holding us back.

About Scorpio

Scorpio is the eighth sign of the Zodiac. It is the sign that deals with what we bury deep within and what needs to surface to release.

In the body, it corresponds to the excretory system. That tells you everything.

Scorpio is the place where we deal with loss, death, and the things that related to death: grief, mental health, inheritance, taxes, and the other things that nobody likes to talk about in a culture that prefers to focus on “happiness.”

But when we push those undesired emotions beneath the surface, they don’t go away. They continue to occupy space in our psyches and infiltrate our bodies, keeping us from working at our optimal levels.

Think of it like the Deleted Photos album on your phone or the trash bin on your computer. The contents of those folders still occupy space on your hard drive, even though they are out of sight. They slow up the other systems that need to run.

Similarly, when we bury stuff deep within the “Deleted Photos” album of our psyche, it still takes up space — precious bandwidth that impacts our internal operating systems.

When our hidden storage containers are filled to capacity with unexplored and unexpressed grief, anger, and disappointment, we often run hot — the anger burns within us.

We have less space for being present to life, and for receiving what life wants to offer us.

To preserve our survival, our nervous systems will shut down non-essential functions in the realm of “executive function” tasks — like our ability to make decisions and plan for the future.

This full moon invites us to surface what is in those deep recesses of our psyches, and where we are holding it in our bodies, so that we can release them to create space.

Square to Pluto

At this full moon, the moon in Scorpio and the Sun in Taurus are both in a square to Pluto in Aquarius.

Pluto is the planet that represents transformation and power, and all that is blocking both of these things.

It speaks to our deepest fears, what we shove way into the shadow.

With Pluto in the mix, we are encouraged to dive even deeper into the depths of our emotions, to uncover what lies beneath the surface and what lies beneath that.

For example, underneath your anger might be fear, but under your fear might be deep unexplored grief.

This is the time to bring it all up to the surface, to sit with it and feel it so you can heal it.

Resources and Power At a full moon, the moon is opposite the Sun. This full moon puts the Sun in Taurus opposite the moon in Scorpio.

This brings focus to the Taurus-Scorpio axis, which correlates with finances, resources, and possessions.

It invites us to consider how we balance relying on ourselves and our own resources and relying on others and their resources. How do we collaborate in a way that feels fair and equitable for all, where each person is contributing their best resources and receiving from the others?

Where are we giving away our power in our collaborations?

Often, it’s those places where we have pushed emotions and parts of ourselves below the surface that we are most likely to find we have given our power away.

Uncover What You’ve Suppressed

This full moon invites us to uncover what we have suppressed so that we can clear bandwidth for our best work and reclaim our power.
