The pains that ache most deeply often arise through long-held patterns. Many didn’t originate with us, yet we carry them anyway.
Tonight’s full moon in Libra is here to help us illuminate the deepest origination point of our wounds and help us heal them, even if it does require us to feel into those pains first.
Full Moon in Libra
Full moons bring tension and illuminate where things lie in opposition, or polarity.
At a full moon, the moon is opposite the sun. The moon in Libra is opposite the sun in Aries.
In general terms, a full moon in Libra illuminates the tension we have in relationships between meeting our needs and attending to the needs of others.
The Aries/Libra axis is the axis of the ego self and individuality versus dissolving the ego for the purpose of a relationship. Aries is ruled by Mars, the warrior planet that wants its way. Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of harmony and beauty.
Some of our wounds in relationships come from this tension poorly mediated: when we are too much about ourselves and not giving to a relationship, or when we don’t receive what we need in relationship.
But what wounds lie beneath the surface that cause these patterns of how we show up?
That’s where this full moon shines its light.
Brining Deeper Awareness to Buried Wounds
This full moon in Libra is also directly opposite Chiron in Aries, which is making a conjunction with the sun.
Chiron is a minor planet that brings us the archetype of the wounded healer.
In mythology, Chiron was a centaur — half man, half horse — who was different from all the other centaurs. Chrion had profound healing capabilities, but when he was hit with a poisonous arrow he was unable to heal his own wounds.
Chiron speaks to our deepest wounding; the wounding that often remains buried and that may persist despite all efforts to heal.
The sun conjunct Chiron shines light on renewal and healing. We are able to see more clearly how we’ve been wounded by long-buried past events. The patterns of our pain and how we react to them become more obvious.
The moon represents what’s unconscious; what’s innate or inherited. When the moon is opposing Chiron, it illuminates a tension between our emotions and deep healing. How are we invested in the narratives we have about our origins, and in our personal way of doing things?
Healing Through Awareness and Change
Unraveling the wounds that cause our physical pains is complicated.
My aching shoulder didn’t get that way on its own. It relates to an imbalance in my hip, which may stem from a problem in my feet. If I treat the shoulder without addressing the actual cause of the pain, I may get temporary relief, but I won’t heal.
The same is true with our psychic or emotional wounds.
Unpacking our psychic pains is complex work. Our deepest wounds pass on from generation to generation. The growing field of epigenetics has shed new light on how traumas experienced in one generation pass onto subsequent generations.
When we are locked in a pattern, we can’t heal.
Astrologer Chani Nicholas writes that
Anything that is stagnant and locked in a pattern has to be addressed. It has to be massaged. It has to be opened up in some way, shape or form.
We need circulation to heal. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.
To heal, we must identify the wound, change our pattern, do things differently.
Awareness creates the first portal to opening a space for healing.
