lose yourself in time
delight in doing nothing
seize the sacred day
Carpe Diem. Seize the day.
How many times have you heard that admonition?
It’s often said by the type of people who warn you about the danger of losing time.
Something I often wonder:
When we lose time, where does it go?
Is there a Time Lost and Found bin somewhere, where we can find the time we lost?
Have you ever noticed that the more you try to do to seize the day — the more you pack your schedule, the busier you are — the more the day seems to get away from you?
At least that’s what happens to me.
If my day is packed with meetings, calls, appointments, little errands, emails back and forth, and other small bits and pieces, I inevitably wind up in the dark hours wondering,
Where did the day go?
In trying to seize the day, I lose the day. By trying to make the best use of my time, I let time get away from me.
On the other hand, when I slow down, time slows down too.
When I stop to rest in stillness, time stops.
When I let go of “getting things done,” the day comes to me.
I see the day unfold as I watch the sun creep across the sky until it disappears below the horizon.
In the sacred space of doing nothing, I find time.
And I find myself — present in the eternity of this moment.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
