If you’re keeping track, we are only one week into 2021. Maybe it still feels like 2020 to you.
It’s been an intense week.
The coming weeks are likely to be equally, if not more, intense.
We are collectively moving through a big transition period. Change is in the air and impossible to ignore. It stirs up emotions.
If we learned anything from 2020, it’s that maintaining our health is crucial. Being sick is not the best state for being productive.
When things feel intense, or I’m feeling overwhelmed, I remind myself to pause before committing to anything. In that pause, I ask myself:
What choice will best support my well-being right now?
Maybe the moment calls for canceling plans and clearing the schedule so you can rest. Sometimes the best action in a given moment is no action. When it’s hard to see beyond the immediate thing in front of me, I take it moment by moment, pausing to ask this question at every step.
I find this question to be empowering. It eliminates the usual mind games around decisions — pro/con lists, evaluating benefits or potential outcomes, anything else that causes thought loops — and cuts right to the heart of what matters most: my health and well-being.
I invite you to try this on in the coming weeks. Let me know how it shapes your decisions and how you feel as a result.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
