An Orange in a Bag of Apples

May 11, 2020 | Renée Fishman

You are like an orange in a bag of apples.

Here is the explanation:

An orange has a tough skin but a juicy interior. The interior of the orange is the passion and emotion — the juice of life.

The orange is rich in color. It has a tough skin, and can be hard to peel, but if you stick with it to unpeel it, you are rewarded with a rich interior: yummy juice, succulent flesh.

You can drink it; you can eat it. Oranges have texture and richness.

But when you squeeze all the juice out of an orange, only its tough skin remains, and the skin dries out.

The shell of the orange gets its luster and beauty from the juice inside. The passion that fills it radiates out. When the juice — the passion — is drained, the shell and skin is no longer moist and attractive.

The lesson here is to keep the orange juicy. It needs its shell to protect it so that the juice can develop inside.

The shell and the membrane of the orange, on their own, are bitter. But when you peel away that bitterness, you get to the sweet juicy flesh of the orange.

An orange isn’t one of the other, bitter or juicy. They work together: the exterior protects the interior, and the interior nourishes and informs the exterior.

Without the protection of the shell, the interior won’t get succulent and juicy inside. The thicker the shell, the more succulent the orange. The shell gets its color from the inside.

What’s on the outside reflects what’s on the inside. Self-care and nourishment must go beneath the surface if you want to truly shine.

How are you nourishing your orange?
