How to Have Achievement With Fulfillment

January 29, 2019 | Renée Fishman

The workings of nature and the parallels to our life can be fascinating, and although I love engaging in acts of intellectual curiosity, I’m also a practicalist. I’m a person who challenges and questions every new idea, wondering “what’s this going to do for me?”

If you’re like me, you may be wondering: How will embracing winter help me boost my productivity?

Over the next few days, I’ll share some of the practical benefits of “embracing winter.”

The first benefit of taking time to go within is that it helps us set our objectives and goals from a place of alignment.

For Achievement with Fulfillment, You Must Have Alignment

One of the primary reasons that we fail to achieve our goals is that we set goals that are not aligned with our values and true desires.

Many of my clients come to me with a story about what they want, or how they feel stuck doing what they know they “should” do. It’s often clear from the outset of our conversation that what they say they want is not really what they want. They are trying to live up to an expectation created by someone else — a parent, a spouse, cultural influences, etc.

It’s no surprise that when we achieve these goals, the “achievement high” rarely lasts for long. It’s hard to feel fulfilled when you’re chasing someone else’s dream.

In the rush and hustle of daily life, it’s difficult to hear the guidance from our inner voice. Most people never stop to consider their core values, what’s truly important to them, or even how they work best. They set their goals based on what others tell them is “normal” or possible, or what they should desire. Then they feel miserable in the pursuit of those goals and even worse when they achieve them — if they achieve them.

Achievements are nice, but if the things you accomplish don’t fuel you or aren’t aligned with your core values and ideals, you will be left feeling empty and unfulfilled. More likely, you won’t achieve them, because you’ll burn out in your race to the finish line.

Taking time to go within, to be in the stillness, gives us space to explore what you truly desire and how you want to work, away from the influence of the outside world, will connect you with your true desires and values, so you can create from a place of alignment.

You get one life to live. Isn’t it time to connect with what you desire, rather than chasing someone else’s dreams?
