Mars Trine Saturn and Sextile Uranus: Change Your Game

April 4, 2025 | Renée Fishman

A routine can be a helpful structure that keeps you on track, generates consistency, and facilitates flow. It helps you stay in the groove.

A routine can also be a form of protection: a way to stay safe by doing what feels comfortable and familiar. But it can also keep you feeling stuck in a rut.

Everything is a matter of perspective; it depends on the angle from which you’re looking at it.

On April 4, a rare 3-way alignment between Mars, Saturn, and Uranus encourages us to break free of the routines that no longer work, change our game, and commit to a new way of action.

Mars, Saturn, and Uranus Energies

In astrology, every planet is an archetype — a mix of traits and functions that can operate for good or make things challenging. Whether they will offer challenges or opportunities when they come together depends on the angles they make to each other.

Mars: Action-Taker

Mars is the planet of action, motivation, energy, and assertion. It represents how we go after what we want, how we get fired up to take action. It wants to move fast and break things.

Mars is currently wrapping up a long transit through Cancer. It was in this sign from September-November 2024, and then again since January, when it was retrograde.

Mars in Cancer might struggle to find its spark of motivation and the fire to get things done, but it can also be motivated to protect what is most important to it.

Saturn: Restrictions and Responsibility

Saturn is the planet of limits, restriction, and boundaries. This archetype is all about materializing your goals and making them concrete. It requires the commitment and discipline to show up consistently and attain self-mastery. This is the archetype that asks us to claim responsibility — which can sometimes feel like a heavy burden to bear.

Saturn is currently near the end of its transit through the ocean of Pisces, a place that is known for its expansiveness, no limits, and a lack of boundaries.

Saturn in Pisces can feel like trying to swim across the ocean with a heavy weight tied around you, but it can also provide helpful structure that facilitates flow.

Uranus: Rebel and Revolutionary

Uranus is the planet of revolution, rebellion, and innovation. It seeks to blow up the boundaries and shake up the status quo, for the purpose of setting us free.

Uranus is currently near the end of its 8-year transit through Taurus — a grounded and stable fixed earth sign. Uranus in Taurus has often felt like an earthquake that uprooted our sense of stability and security and toppled long-established structures.

Uranus in Taurus might uproot our structures and stability, but it can also break new ground.

The Angles: Everything is a Matter of Perspective

On the surface, Mars, Saturn, and Uranus have very different and incompatible energies. In a square or opposition, these energies conflict, bringing tension and frustration:

  • Mars wants to go; Saturn slams the brakes.
  • Saturn represents tradition; Uranus wants to uproot that tradition and innovate a new way.
  • Mars and Uranus can bring ungrounded action that disrupts everything without a long-term plan for what comes next.

But if we change the angles, we can find a different perspective.

Mars Trine Saturn Sextile Uranus

On April 4, 2025, these planets come together in a way that brings out the best of each in a way that facilitates innovative breakthroughs and gives us the fire of emotion that can fuel our long-term commitment to build what we’re dreaming about.

The Technical Alignment

In technical terms, Saturn, Uranus, and Mars— positioned at 24º of Pisces, Taurus, and Cancer — form a triangle with Uranus at the apex.

Both Mars and Saturn form a sextile aspect to Uranus, while Mars forms a trine to Saturn. Both sextile and trines are forms of triangles — the most stable shape in nature.

A sextile is a 60º aspect formed between two planets in signs that are of different, but compatible, elements and the same polarity.

Here’s how it looks on the map of the zodiac.

Supportive Significations

Mars is in water sign Cancer, Saturn is in water sign Pisces, and Uranus is in earth sign Taurus.

Water and earth are both yin elements, and support each other: water nourishes the soil, and the earth absorbs the water, creating a container to hold it. A sextile is a harmonious angle that requires us to invest some effort to attain flow.

A trine — which is the aspect between Saturn and Mars — is a 120º triangle formed between planets in signs of the same element; this configuration offers a natural flow.

These configurations give us the best sides of the archetypes showing up in their best light.

What This Means in Practice

So, what does this mean in practice?

If you want different results, you must do something different.

Mars sextile Uranus represents innovation in action. It encourages bold action and constructive risk-taking.

Saturn sextile Uranus brings structured innovation and change: a revolutionary approach to taking action that doesn’t require burning down what exists.

Mars trine Saturn represents action fueled by purpose and strategy, so that it is sustainable over the long-term.

Together, these energies help us find a purpose and structure that facilitates a drive to action, with innovative approaches that allow us to sustain that action over time. This is about breaking new ground without complete destruction of what is.

It’s not just about thinking differently; it’s about doing differently.

If your current game isn’t working for you, change your game.

Step out and take a risk. Make a change. And see where you land.
