Astrology is the study of the patterns of planets movements in the sky, and in 2025 we will see a lot of movement, with every planet changing signs.
The astrological forecast tells us that 2025 is poised to be a year of massive and unprecedented change, the nature of which most of us haven’t seen in our lifetimes. These changes will come to define a new generation, even if it takes a while for us to see how that period will be defined.
Each of these developments deserves a deep-dive review of its own, and I’ll cover them in more detail in future essays. Consider this an overview and cheat-sheet to what’s coming this year, and a guide to what to watch for.
2025: The Year Everything Changes
As we look at the sky from our perspective on earth, some planets move quickly and others move more slowly through the wheel of the Zodiac.
For context, here’s an overview of how long every planet and the luminaries spend in each sign:
- Moon: 2.5–3 days
- Sun: 30 days
- Mercury: approximately 3 weeks, unless retrograde
- Venus: typically 3–4 weeks, unless retrograde
- Mars: 6 weeks, unless retrograde
- Jupiter: 1 year
- Saturn: 2.5–3 years
- Uranus: 7–8 years
- Neptune: 14 years
- Pluto: 15–30 years, depending on the sign
As you might surmise from the above timelines, in any given year, we expect the inner planets — Mercury, Venus, Mars — to change signs frequently. Jupiter changes signs once per year.
When the other planets change sign, its more noteworthy.
A year when Saturn changes sign is a tonal shift.
Because Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto move much more slowly, their transits through a sign are a signature of a generation.
A year in which any ONE of them changes sign is a big deal.
In 2025, all of them will change signs.
Technically, not Pluto, but only because it just changed sign for the first time in 15 years, when it moved from Capricorn to Aquarius in mid-November 2024. It’s just settling into it’s new home, where it will be for the next 20 years.
In addition, the lunar nodes — which mark where eclipses happen — will also change signs in 2025.
Here’s a brief overview of the 5 major planetary changes that are happening in 2025.
(1) Neptune: Pisces to Aries
Neptune, the planet of illusion, delusion, and dreams, has been swimming in the emotional, mutable waters of Pisces since 2011.
It will move into fiery Aries on March 30, 2025. Once it retrogrades, it will dip back into Pisces on October 22, 2025 before returning to Aries on January 26, 2026, where it will stay until 2039.
Neptune in Aries will be a markedly different vibe from its transit through Pisces.
Historically, Neptune in Aries coincides with rebellions, uprisings, and crusades, the breakup of empires and nations, or the keeping together of nations. Neptune takes 165 years to travel through the entire zodiac. The last time Neptune was in Aries was in 1861, just after the American Civil War began.
(2) Saturn: Pisces to Aries
Saturn, the planet of restrictions and boundaries, has been in Pisces since March 2023.
On May 24, 2025, Saturn will move into Aries, where it will remain until September 1, 2025, when it will retrograde back into Pisces. It will re-enter Aries on February 13, 2026 and remain there until April 12, 2028.
Saturn is considered to be in the sign of its “fall” or “depression” in Aries, which is ruled by Mars. Aries is a cardinal fire sign: it is impetuous, impulsive, and has the hot fire of youth. Saturn is careful, considered, risk averse, and represents the wisdom of old age.
Saturn’s patience and desire to play the long game is at odds with the impulsive urgency of Aries.
During its time in Pisces, Saturn has been inching closer to a conjunction with Neptune. Saturn will continue to close in on Neptune once it moves into Aries. The two planets will come within 1 degree of each other in 2025, and will finally meet up at the exact same degree in early 2026.
What happens when the planet of structures, boundaries, and what is real meets the planet of illusion and delusion?
Consider the rise of artificial intelligence and the increasing difficulty of sorting what is real from what is artificially generated. How might fake photos and videos lead nations into war — the purview of Aries?

(3) Uranus: Taurus to Gemini
Uranus is the planet of innovation, disruption, and revolution. It takes 84 years to cycle the zodiac, spending about 7–8 years in each sign. Since 2018, it’s been transiting through grounded Earth sign Taurus, causing some earthquakes, and shaking up financial systems and agriculture.
It will move into Gemini on July 7, 2025 for a few months. On November 8, it will retrograde back to Taurus for one last visit. It will return to Gemini on April 26, 2026, and it will remain there until August 2032.
Gemini is a mutable air sign, known for flighty ideas and lots of conversation. Uranus in Gemini is associated with period of rapid innovation, especially in technology.
The last time Uranus was in Gemini was 1941–1948.
Uranus in Gemini is a significant transit for the United States, marking the country’s “Uranus return.”
The transits of Uranus through Gemini have coincided with the American Revolutionary War, the US Civil War, and the United States’ involvement in World War 2.
(4) Pluto in Aquarius
Pluto, the planet of transformation — aka the Lord of the Underworld — just moved into Aquarius after a long trip through Capricorn. It will remain in Aquarius until 2044.
Pluto in Aquarius is said to bring power to the people, evolving views on power and leadership, and breakthroughs in technology.

It’s worth noting that with Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini, these two outer planets will both be in air signs, configured by a supportive trine angle. They also will both be in a supportive aspect to Neptune in Aries.
This means that the 3 generation-defining outer planets will be supporting each other to shape our culture for the next decade and beyond.

(5) Lunar Nodes: Aries/Libra to Pisces/Virgo
The lunar nodes are not planets, but rather points where the moon crosses the elliptic of the Sun. When new and full moons occur close to the nodes, we get eclipses.
Ancient astrologers compared the north and south nodes to the head and tail of a dragon. The nodes always are exactly opposite each other, and they travel in retrograde (backwards) motion through the zodiac.
The nodes enter a new sign every 18 months, and their transits highlight archetypal themes related to those signs.
Since 2023, the North Node has been in Aries, while the South Node has been in Libra, with eclipses in these signs.
On January 11, the nodes move to the Pisces/Virgo axis, asking us to navigate the tension between dreams (Pisces) and practicality (Virgo).
Setting the Stage for Decades to Come
Think about how different the world is now compared to 2007, when Pluto entered Capricorn, or 2011, when Neptune entered Pisces, or even 2018, when Uranus entered Taurus.
The changes that start in 2025 will set the stage for the coming decades. They will impact us both individually and collectively.
