I’ve always believed that the “juice” of life — what makes life rich and meaningful — is in the journey.
If we could magically transport ourselves to “the other side” of whatever we are facing, we would miss the moments that make us who we are.
The journey is often a winding, rocky road filled with obstacles and potholes and lined with dangerous cliffs.
It is also a path paved with beautiful flowers and offering stunning vistas. Sunsets and rainbows. Caring strangers who offer kindness.
Any desire we harbor to have only the good without the challenging is wasted energy. Life is a “both, and.”
If we could, magically, be given the opportunity to have the highs without the lows, we wouldn’t find the highs to be so great. It’s the lows — the obstacles, the challenges, the moments of despair — that define the highs.
How we travel the path speaks louder than any words of advice we can offer others.
How do we stay present and calm in the face of rockslides, mudslides, rainstorms, and earthquakes?
How do we deal with both setbacks and strides forward, with planned arrivals and unplanned departures?
How do we navigate the joy and grief? Especially when they come at the same time, as they often do.
Exploring that journey has always been at the core of my mission with this blog.
The intention isn’t necessarily to prescribe a path to an outcome.
It’s to explore the questions, the mystery, and how we navigate this experience of life.
Ultimately we all end up in the same place, some faster than others. The magic of life is not in where we are going. It’s in how we are getting there.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
