In an era where everyone has a platform, and in a culture that promotes sharing of everything, it’s easy to speak your words, to share your thoughts.
Our minds never stop churning. They are always running out ahead of our bodies, reaching our destination and planning responses to what might arise before events have had an opportunity to unfold.
On your drive home, you anticipate the conversation that might arise, and how you might respond to the other person. On your way to work, you imagine how you might confront your boss about your workload.
You can pop off a text or a tweet to share the inner workings of your mind without a moment’s thought.
Ah, the irony: Sharing what you’re thinking without thinking about what you’re sharing or how it might land.
In general, I’m an advocate of full self-expression and speaking your mind. But sometimes, it’s best to hold back.
Life is about timing.
It’s not just what you do or what you say. It’s about doing or saying the right thing at the right time.
Today, as Mercury, the planet of communication, forms a conjunction with Neptune and a square to Mars, it reminds us that sometimes it’s best to hold your tongue.
Mercury Conjunct Neptune
Conjunctions amplify the energy of the 2 planets.
Neptune’s energy is mysterious. It can feel illusory. This is a time for dreaming.
Mercury, the planet of communications, is already not in the best situation. It likes details and analysis, and in Neptune it is relegated to this big picture and hazy outlines.
Mercury conjunct Neptune in Pisces is floating in the water rather than cutting through with facts and data.
Mercury Square Mars
Shortly after it meets up with Neptune, Mercury will form a square to Mars.
A square is a 90-degree aspect between two planets. Squares are the most challenging aspect plants can make. They create friction and dis-ease.
Mars is caustic. Fiercely independent, it stops at nothing to get what it wants. It’s the warrior.
Mercury square Mars happens periodically, and can bring an energy of “fighting words.”
Earlier this week, we experienced the third installment of the Mars/Neptune square, which has been referred to as the “fog of war.”
Mercury joining this mix can be like trying to shoot at your opponent in the thick of the fog. You may not hit your target, and the risk of injury to yourself is high.
Our words are potent weapons if not handled with care.
Hold Your Fire Until the Fog Lifts
When things feel unclear or heavy, your best bet is to lay low until the fog clears.
Go within. Check your energetics. Align with yourself and unburden yourself before you have a difficult conversation.
Just because it’s on your mind, doesn’t mean you need to share it. Just because you feel it, doesn’t mean you need to articulate it.
At least not with or to anyone else.
Sometimes not even with yourself.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
