When I was growing up, adults often divided kids into groups:
- the athlete
- the creative
- the smart one
These labels became an identity. Many of us continue to see the world and ourselves through these lenses.
We often treat these labels as prescriptions for living.
The subculture of “creatives” and “creators” doesn’t help us much.
The problem with these labels is that they are often applied in a zero-sum way.
If you’re an athlete you can’t be creative.
If you’re smart you shouldn’t be an athlete.
In reality, life isn’t a zero sum game.
You can be more than one thing at a time.
Especially when it comes to being a “creative.”
Creativity isn’t something you do. Nobody has a lock on it, regardless of profession.
Creativity is who you are.
We are all creative beings.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
