We live in a goal-obsessed culture. “Busy” is often claimed as a badge of honor. “Getting things done” is a metric of “productivity.”
What often gets lost in all of this is the driving force:
What gives life meaning?
The period from Rosh Hashana through Yom Kippur is a special time in the Jewish calendar.
It’s a time of spiritual homecoming, when we return to our true selves and what’s most important.
Before we can set goals and chart a path for the future, we must get present.
This is the time to ask some of the hard questions:
- Where are you in life?
- Who are you?
- What are you doing?
- Are you doing what matters?
To paraphrase the poet Mary Oliver:
How are you using your one wild and precious life?
