To say we have a complicated relationship with change would be an understatement.
We spend much time pining for change, longing for things to be different from how they are. We complain when progress doesn’t come fast enough, when we feel stagnant because change happens too slowly.
Even though it’s happening in plain sight right under our noses, when change does come we complain that it came too fast.
No matter how long we’ve been preparing for it, we need more time. Even though we’ve watched it slowly march towards us, suddenly we’re not ready.
The thing we desire most is often the thing we fear most.
This is true across many realms, especially change.
In the face of change, we cling to anything we think we have; even though all of it is impermanent. We seize any sense of control, even though control is an illusion.
We resist it.
Even when the change is something we wanted, even when it’s something we’ve planned for, change often seems to catch us off-guard.
