New Moon in Scorpio: Finding Joy in Not Knowing

November 14, 2020 | Renée Fishman

There’s a pervasive sense of malaise hanging over the collective right now. It’s showing up in conversations with friends, in the women’s circles in which I participate, in talks by mentor, news articles.

People are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, angry, sad, hopeless, despondent, anxious, fearful.

It’s been a week. Remember when you were eager to know the results? Now we know. How much has changed?

At each turn we are waiting for this to be over, for uncertainty to resolve, but it never really ends because uncertainty is part of life.

Instead of being disappointed that there’s more uncertainty, we can strengthen the skill of being in the mystery and find joy in the unknown.

New Moon Energy

How perfect then is this timing as we usher in a new moon, the moon phase that best epitomizes being in the mystery and the emptiness of the void.

New moons are a time of releasing and shedding what no longer serves us.

As astrologer Chani Nicholas explains:

[New moons] strip away the extraneous and test our faith; if we get rid of the trash, will good things really fill up the void that is left behind?

New Moon in Scorpio

This new moon comes in the sign of Scorpio, a sign that is passionate, resourceful, focused, probing, deep, and perceptive.

Nicholas explains that

In Scorpio, feelings of desolation and depletion can be especially prominent as the Moon wants an abundance of comfort, but Scorpio just wants to get to the core of the feeling.

Unearthing is Scorpio’s job.

New Moon Contemplations

Some journal prompts for you to consider at this new moon:

  • What “trash” do you need to get rid of at this new moon? What is filling the space that may be preventing something better from coming?
  • What os calling to be unearthed?
  • What are your default ways of seeking comfort in times of uncertainty? What emotions are you masking in that comfort?
  • What is your relationship with not knowing and being in the mystery?
