Venus in Cancer: Initiate Relationships of Care

July 30, 2025 | Renée Fishman

What if the dominant currency in our culture was the currency of care?

It’s something to consider as Venus makes its annual transit through the sign of Cancer. Venus will enter Cancer on July 30 (11:57 PM ET). It will swim through this cardinal water sign until August 25, 2025.

5 Things to Know About Venus in Cancer in 2025

(1) Venus in Cancer is an Annual Event

Venus’ ingress into to a new sign isn’t a particularly significant event — especially in the context of the major moves of 2025.

Like the Sun and Mercury, Venus transits through all twelve signs of the zodiac each year, spending about a month in each sign.

Each time Venus moves into a new sign, it brings a shift in energy and allows us to explore a new side of the planet’s archetypal energy within us.

(2) Significations of Venus and Cancer

In astrology, planets and signs represent archetypal energies that exist within us. These energies might overlap, but planets and signs are different.

Think about how you might act differently at home with your friends compared to at a business dinner with work colleagues. The setting brings out different parts of you. The same goes for planets in the different signs.

Venus Significations

Planets are the Who: they are the roles we play.

Venus is the Lover; it is the planet of relationships, pleasure, beauty, art, money, justice, and harmony. Venus seeks to bring people together, to forge unions of all types — from marriages to business partnerships to labor unions. It’s also the planet of our desires, values, and self-worth.

Cancer Significations

Signs are the How: they describe environments and styles of acting.

Cancer is a cardinal water sign that initiates the Summer season. It’s a sign of growth through nourishment, nurturing, and care.

Cancer brings out our sensitivity — or attunement — to the energies in our environment; it’s a place of nostalgia and sentimentality. This is also a sign of protection; like the mother who protects her children and the home.

Ruled by the moon, Cancer can be a variable environment in which we learn to surf waves of emotions.

(3) Venus in Cancer Energy

Although Venus has no special dignity in Cancer, its nature is very compatible with Cancer’s environment.

Venus in Cancer forges relationships rooted in nurturing, care, and commitment. It values predictability, safety, and security in its relationships and unions.

In Cancer, Venus is highly attuned to the energies of other people and environments. This might appear as being intuitive and perceptive; it can also express as moodiness. Venus in Cancer might be expressive and loving one day, and withdrawn the next day.

For Venus in Cancer, emotional wounds linger. Cancer is a sign where we tend to cling to things that happened in the past. Rumination is common. Someone born with Venus in Cancer will hold onto a small slight long after you forgot the incident. They might struggle to let go of past relationships and can become insecure when they feel threatened or unappreciated.

Venus in Cancer builds trust through acts of care and service, attunement to others’ emotional state, and by seeking harmony and justice.

Venus in Cancer wants to protect what it holds most dear, whether that be its home, its assets, or its inner emotional state. Like a crab, it might withdraw into its shell when it feels threatened.

It’s not all emo, though.

Venus in Cancer is also loyal, affectionate, devoted, dedicated, warm, and nurturing.

In Cancer, Venus initiates relationships. It seeks to form mutually-nurturing unions of all types — relationships where both sides feel loved and cared for.

(4) The Flavor of Venus in Cancer in 2025

Even though Venus transits through Cancer every year, no transit is exactly the same. That’s because the other planets are all in different positions, changing the nature of how Venus relates to them.

As Venus transits Cancer in 2025, it will form some different aspects with outer planets.

Venus in Cancer Square Saturn and Neptune in Aries (August 1)

Almost immediately after entering Cancer, Venus will form squares with Saturn and Neptune, which are both in Aries. A square is a relationship of friction that asks us to resolve a tension before we can move forward. It’s much different from the trines to Saturn and Neptune that Venus in Cancer formed in the past few years.

Venus square Saturn (August 1, 9:34 AM ET, 1º38’) might highlight where we need stronger boundaries in our relationships — perhaps a place where we are giving too much care. It can also show us what obstacles are blocking our affections.

Venus square Neptune (August 1, 4:48 PM ET, 1º58’) brings focus to unrealistic fantasies, illusions, or confusion we may harbor in our relationships that might be interfering with our ability to be present to what is real.

With Neptune and Saturn so close together, these energies will blend together. It’s a time to lay low and get clear on what’s in your heart before interacting with others.

Venus in Cancer Square Chiron in Aries (August 22)

Toward the end of the transit, Venus will square Chiron in Aries (August 22, 10:29 PM ET, 26º55’). Chiron is a minor planet known as the wounded healer. This friction might surface our deeper wounds around balancing our individual needs with care for others.

Chiron in Aries speaks to wounds we carry around forging our own path. With Chiron retrograde, this will be a moment to review where our commitments to caring and nurturing others interfere with our ability to strike out on our own.

Venus Conjunct Jupiter in Cancer (August 12)

The highlight of Venus’s transit through Cancer will come midway through its transit, when Venus forms a conjunction with Jupiter in Cancer (August 12, 1:30 AM ET, 14º04’).

This meetup of the two benefic planets, in the sign of Jupiter’s exaltation, can foster feelings of expansiveness, growth, graciousness, and generosity.

(5) The Invitation of Venus in Cancer

The invitation of Venus in Cancer is to explore how the different sides of Venus show up in your life and relationships.

  • Where do you show up in relationships with healthy devotion and commitment?
  • Where do you over-care in relationships?
  • Where are you overly needy or dependent in relationships?
  • How can you make care your currency?
  • How can you show your devotion to others without over-giving at the expense of your needs and desires?

In addition, look to the area of life where Cancer falls in your chart to determine where to initiate new relationships, and where your currency of care might be best invested.
