What is keeping you from expressing your authentic voice?
The planet Mercury represents the part of us that comes up with ideas and shares them. In the sign of Leo, ruled by the Sun, it is dramatic, bold, courageous and passionate. It expresses itself unapologetically. It relishes visibility and thrives under the spotlight.
Mercury Retrograde in Leo: What’s Stopping Your Authentic Expression?
As Mercury has been traveling retrograde through Leo, we’ve been encouraged to explore what keeps us from this ideal expression of the Mercury in Leo archetype:
- What holds you back from communicating authentically?
- What keeps you from sharing your ideas?
- Why are you running from the spotlight instead of seizing it?
- How can you retrieve your authentic voice and speak your truth with more clarity?
Mercury Cazimi: The Heart of the Matter
Mercury’s retrogrades can be chaotic: mixed signals, lost communications, brain fog, and other hiccups that stymie our best efforts to share our messages.
But within the chaos and confusion of any journey, we have moments of insight and clarity.
A light flickers on, showing us an opening we couldn’t see previously.
We hear a whisper of an inner voice, giving us a piece of information that helps everything click into place.
We suddenly see a path that we couldn’t see it before.
We get answers to the questions we’ve been asking, solutions to the challenges we’ve been struggling to resolve.
We receive a new truth.
These moments of clarity give new life to our journey. Where previously we might have been exhausted — too weary to continue, ready to quit — suddenly we find a new wellspring of energy to continue, or even to start fresh.
This is the hallmark of a Mercury’s cazimi — the moment when Mercury meets up with the Sun, which occurs July 31 (7:41 PM ET, 9º00’ Leo).
The Mercury cazimi takes us to the heart of the matter: what’s really going on? What’s keeping you from sharing your messages and your best ideas?
A Refresh Before Re-emergence
Promise me, that when you step into the light, you will be worthy of the attention you command. — Lady Danbury, Bridgerton Season 1
Mercury’s cazimi during its retrograde is known as the interior or inferior cazimi. (The other is the exterior cazimi, and happens when Mercury is direct.)
The interior cazimi is Mercury’s “New Moon” moment; the start of a new 4-month cycle with the Sun.
Like a new moon, the interior cazimi takes us inward: the insights and whispers are personal, heard only when we can silence our minds from the chatter of the outside world.
That may seem counter-intuitive in Leo, a sign that wants to be expressive and outward focused.
Indeed, at its ideal, Mercury in Leo is performative and passionate, inspired and inspiring.
But to get there, first we need to go within.
During its cazimi, Mercury is invisible to us; hidden within the light of the Sun. Whatever is stopping you from expressing your authentic voice is something you can’t see. The Mercury cazimi takes us inward — to the heart of the matter — so we can uncover the obstacles blocking our most authentic speech.
As it emerges from under the Sun’s beams over the next week, Mercury will be a morning star: literally stepping into the light, ready to command attention for its messages and ideas.
