Sometimes, change is subtle: incremental movements that are barely perceptible in the moment and visible only with the perspective of hindsight.
Other times, change is loud, disruptive, and explosive. The force of it feels unexpected; it seems to come out of nowhere. You can’t miss it — even if you’re otherwise oblivious.
When I look at planetary alignments and see Mars and Uranus come together in any dynamic aspect — such as a square, conjunction, or opposition — I know it’s not going to be subtle. And when Mars and Uranus form a square — a 90º angle that represents friction — I have come to expect the most extreme.
That’s one piece of the dynamic for Sunday, June 15, as Mars in Leo forms a square with Uranus in Taurus. The other piece of this dynamic is a square between Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Aries.
Here are 3 things you need to know about both of these:
- This is not subtle.
- This is not just a one-day thing.
- This is bigger than just you.
Mars/Uranus Square
Mars is the planet of drive, motivation, anger, and action. Uranus is the planet of disruption, revolution, and rebellion, in service of liberation.
When they interact, it’s like lighting a fuse to a powder keg. It’s loud. Disruptive. Violent. Often surprising or unexpected. Mars/Uranus is plane crashes, bombs, missiles, shootings, accidents. It’s people taking to the streets in acts of defiance and protests. It’s uprisings, rebellions, and movements to change the status quo.
This can feel impulsive, unexpected, and erratic, although it often reflects an inflection point reached only after something has been been simmering for a long time. This is the match to the powder keg.
This may show up for you personally as a resistance to routines or responsibilities, a desire to completely change course or liberate yourself from your status quo.
But it’s bigger than you. This is collective energy, and we’ve been in it for a while. These planets are finishing up long transits through these fixed signs, and their friction is a catalyst for era-defining change.
Jupiter/Saturn Square
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, growth, and optimism. Saturn is the planet of contraction, restriction, limits, and structure.
When they form a square, it represents a friction of growth pushing against limits. It can reflect a clash of unbridled optimism against restriction, compassion against criticism, generosity against stinginess.
Jupiter says “yes,” while Saturn says “no.” Jupiter wants growth and expansion, while Saturn reminds us of our existing responsibilities. Jupiter looks forward with optimism, while Saturn holds us back out of fear.
A square between Jupiter and Saturn can result in inertia, where we are caught between the desire to move forward and the fear that holds us back.
This is part three of a series of squares that they are making that started in 2024, when Saturn was in Pisces and Jupiter was in Gemini. Now they are at the start of cardinal signs: Saturn is in Aries and Jupiter is in Cancer.
This final of 3 squares, now at the start of cardinal signs, is a signal to take initiative and action in response to conflict.
This isn’t a subtle sign. The explosiveness of this moment is a catalyst to action.
Love it? Hate it? What do you think? Don't hold back...
