The idiom “to stir the pot” often implies deliberate mischief.
Someone who “stirs the pot” is a trouble-maker, a trickster, a rabble-rouser; one who intentionally causes confusion or chaos. The pot-stirrer sows the seeds of disruption, upends the status quo, stokes rebellion, and sometimes initiates a revolution.
But think about the phrase in a more literal context.
If you want to make a pot of soup, you put ingredients in a pot with water and turn on the heat. You let the alchemy of simmering water and ingredients take their own course for a while. Eventually, you return to stir the pot.
Imagine being a vegetable or other ingredient in the pot.
From that perspective, this process is disruptive. It’s agitating. It’s uncomfortable. Your boiling in a pot of water. It’s hot.
But in a way, it’s also liberating.
Stirring the Pot Facilitates Alchemy
Everything you put into that pot takes on a new shape — a new “identity” — in the process of cooking the soup.
You might not enjoy the flavor of a raw onion, but with the benefit of time, heat, and water, the onion softens and turns sweet. The carrots take on a new shape. Any raw meat you put in the pot cooks and softens. The various ingredients in your soup come together in a new way, for a new purpose.
From your perspective as the cook, as you “stir the pot,” you’re disrupting the status quo of the vegetables. You’re agitating. You’re revolutionizing.
You’re also alchemizing.
Stirring the pot gets whatever has settled to the bottom into the mix. It blends the flavors. It also brings to the surface the sediment that sticks to the bottom of the pot, so it can be skimmed out of the soup.
Stirring the pot is the essential action that turns the chaos of your individual ingredients into a new cohesive thing.
There’s always an element of uncertainty when making soup; a surprise in how it will turn out. Even if you use the same recipe, the alchemy doesn’t work the same exact way each time.
Essential Ingredients: Time and Patience
Making a good soup takes time. If you cultivate patience, then by the time you finish, what started as a bunch of raw ingredients has come together in a new way.
- You’ve turned the inedible into something desirable.
- You’ve brought ingredients together in a form that nourishes your body and soul.
- You’ve created cohesion out of chaos.
You’ve played the role of the planet Uranus.
Uranus: The Pot Stirrer
In the pantheon of the planetary players, Uranus is the great disruptor.
Uranus is a rule-breaker, a rabble rouser, trouble maker. It’s the planet of breakdowns, break-ups, and break-throughs. A restless renegade who catalyzes rebellion and revolution to promote liberation.
As the first planet beyond Saturn, Uranus sits outside the system. Uranus represents freedom from the current paradigm, rather than within it.
Uranus stirs the pot in the soup of our collective experience. Sometimes because it wants to create yummy soup, and sometimes just to see what happens as the vegetables get stirred up.
You know that person. Maybe you are that person.
Like in our pot of soup, stirring the pot can cause chaos and separation, but eventually it brings a new cohesion.
This is Uranus: it sows disorder to create a new order, a new paradigm.
Uranus energy is all about doing things differently. Not because different is necessarily better — in fact, sometimes it isn’t better at all — but because its different.
Because the old way feels stale and boring. Because life is meant to be shaken up and rearranged every once in a while. And because experimentation can be fun and invigorating.
Uranus in Gemini: What’s Getting Stirred Up
As Uranus moves into Gemini, it will stir the pot in all things related to Gemini and Mercury, Gemini’s ruler.
Gemini is a hot, humane, and social sign. It’s a place of curiosity, communication, and commerce, and associated with technology, trade, and travel.
In Gemini, we are abuzz in constant chatter, flitting from one topic to the next based on the whims of our interest.
Mercury, the messenger, is the planet of information dispersal. It also rules commerce, trade, innovation, and technology. Mercury is the salesperson, marketer, writer, teacher, and student. It’s the conversationalist, the comedian, and the con artist. It’s the innovator, inventor, and influencer.
Uranus, often called the higher octave of Mercury, shares many of its significations — including its reputation for being surprising, unpredictable, and sometimes a trickster.
The discovery of Uranus in 1781 — which (naturally) occurred under a Uranus in Gemini transit — is a great example of this transit’s signature. The discovery was facilitated through the use of a telescope, a new technology at that time. It was an accident and surprise that upended existing knowledge by introducing a new planet into the then-known solar system.
This challenged existing beliefs about the universe and space.
Uranus in Gemini Paradigm Shifts
Under Uranus in Gemini, expect paradigm shifts, surprises and rapid innovation related to issues including:
- language and how we communicate
- information and how it is disseminated
- social interaction, including social media
- travel, trade, and commerce
- alliances and borders
- technology and artificial intelligence
- learning and education
- innovation and invention
- our mental processes: thinking, systems, and processes
- beliefs and belief systems
A Rapid Pace of Innovation
As a mutable sign, Gemini is adaptable and already highly prone to change. This makes it a better fit for Uranus than Taurus, a fixed sign where change is met with heavy resistance.
Gemini is a place where things move fast; Mercury is known for its speed. Uranus fits well with this sign, and this transit can feel like a doubling down on the Mercurial energy.
Expect the pace of innovation and flow of information to be rapid.
If all of this feels overwhelming, it tracks.
Gemini governs the nervous system, and the rapid inflow of new information can be dysregulating. To best navigate the cyclone of change It will be imperative to engage in self-care that helps you stay grounded and in your body.
Your Personal Uranus in Gemini Soup
On a personal level, Uranus will directly impact the “House” — the area of your life — that falls in Gemini in your personal chart.
This area of life will be ripe for restlessness, uprooting, innovation, and new ways of operating. You’ll be inclined to revisit your beliefs and reconsider what you think you know.
Change in this area will be inevitable, even if it doesn’t currently feel desirable.
The Alchemy is in Process
As Uranus stirs the pot in Gemini, the alchemy is already underway. We will feel the intense heat and disorienting pace of being stirred into chaos. We may not know exactly how the soup will turn out, but we know that the next seven years will create paradigm shifts in how we communicate and connect, and how we work with information, innovation, and influence.
