full moon in Leo
illuminate how you shine
let yourself be seen
Are you playing small in your own life? Are you putting your desires and dreams on the back burner while you tend to everyone else’s needs, letting others write the script for the movie of your life?
Today’s full moon in Leo invites us to take center stage in our lives, to summon the courage to be visible,
Full moons are always times for illumination. The moon is shining brightly in the sky. A full moon in Leo is especially one for being bright, as Leo is about the self. It is ruled by the sun, the centerpiece of the solar system, the luminary around which everything else revolves.
Opposition and Synergy
Full moons are also times of tension and opposition. The sun and moon sit across from each other on the zodiac wheel.
The sun, which rules Leo, is in Aquarius. While Leo is about the individual, Aquarius is a sign that rules the collective. It is the audience for Leo’s performer.
Although they may appear to be at odds, they need each other. A performer feeds off the energy of the audience; the verbal, visual, and kinesthetic feedback is a source of motivation and fuel for the performer.
The audience also needs the performers. The performer reflects to them the parts of themselves that perhaps they might not have seen before.
When you watch a movie or a tv show, or a stand up comedy act, you react to the parts that speak to something within you. In this, you learn something about yourself.
The Tension in Visibility
For many of us, there’s a tension to being visible, to claiming out place in the spotlight. Perhaps you were conditioned to believe that it’s in bad taste to make yourself so visible, or even dangerous.
Full moons illuminate what has been in shadow. This full moon invites us to examine:
What are the stories and beliefs that have kept us small and hidden?
3 Limiting Beliefs About Visibility
As an example, here are three of the deeply conditioned beliefs I have uncovered in myself around visibility and self-promotion that have kept me small.
- I was taught that self-promotion is akin to bragging, and not appropriate because good merchandise speaks for itself. This keeps me from fully promoting and sharing my work and my offerings.
- I recall being told as a child that good children should be seen and not heard. This often causes me to stay quiet when I have something to add — especially if what I want to share may be controversial or against the grain.
- I was conditioned with the belief that sharing news about myself was risky. To share good news risked the “evil eye.” People might get jealous and try to take you down. Misfortune might result. And if you shared your struggles or challenges, people might seek to take advantage of you.
You might see how someone with these beliefs would isolate in times of challenge, yet also not share her wins and successes.
But staying hidden actually serves nobody. The audience needs the performer. We need people to show themselves so we can see ourselves reflected in them.
Let Yourself Be Seen
In the same way, when we let ourselves be seen, we help others find the courage to be seen.
The invitation of this Leo full moon is to take center stage in your own life. Illuminate the places where you shine and let yourself be seen.
