Solar Eclipse in Aries: The Beginning is an Ending

March 29, 2025 | Renée Fishman

All endings are beginnings, and all beginnings are endings.

Beginning: The new moon in Aries (March 29, 2025 6:57 am ET) is always the first new moon of the zodiacal year, marking an initiation point for new intentions for the solar cycle.

Ending: The 2025 new moon in Aries is also a solar eclipse. It’s the last of three solar eclipses in Aries that we’ve had since April 2023. It’s also the final of six eclipses in the cycle that took place on the Aries/Libra axis since 2023.

That means that this eclipse is wrapping up a story that started two years ago.

Eclipse Primer

A solar eclipse occurs at a new moon, when the Moon is aligned at an angle that causes it to pass in front of the Sun as they come together. This happens when the Sun and Moon are close to one of the Lunar Nodes, points at which the Moon’s path intersects with the Sun’s path.

At a solar eclipse the Moon blocks out some or all of the Sun’s light.

Eclipses happen when the either the North Node or

The Sun symbolizes ego, identity, purpose, and consciousness, as well as what is rational, logical, and visible. The Moon symbolizes our emotions, intuition, and subconscious.

Symbolically, when the Moon passes in front of the Sun, it represents our emotions and intuition taking charge over our rational and conscious.

As the Sun’s light is blotted out, it points us to a period of introspection. Without the Sun’s light, we are forced to confront the shadows: the parts of ourselves or situations that we typically don’t want to look at.

Energetically, eclipses are like a power outage in the sky. They can be destabilizing and unpredictable.

Astrologically, eclipses represent major turning points, reversals, or pivot points. Sometimes those pivots are sudden and unpredictable, but other times they might be building slowly under the surface — in the shadows — and the eclipse shows us what we can no longer ignore.

Not the Time For New Intentions

Unlike other new moons, eclipses are not the right energy for “manifesting” or setting intentions. What initiates at an eclipse tends to unfold over a longer period of time.

The best strategy is to observe what’s happening around you and within you and write it down. Sometimes we can only see the turning point with the benefit of hindsight and perspective.

Don’t overlook little niggling feelings — sometimes those are the clearest messages we receive.

If you’ve been mired in ambivalence about a major move, the eclipse might bring you sudden clarity about the right path for you. If that happens, embody the Aries energy and pursue it boldly and with courage.

A Story is Ending

As the last eclipse in a cycle that began two years ago, this eclipse points to the ending of a story.

Generally speaking, the eclipses on the Aries/Libra axis invited us to consider the tension between “me” and “we.”

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac: a cardinal, fire sign that looks out for “me first.” Ruled by Mars, Aries is a place of martial energy: competitive and sometimes combative. It’s sign of independence, action, and self-determination.

Libra, the seventh sign of the zodiac, is a cardinal air sign that is about relationships, social harmony, and justice. Ruled by Venus, it wants everyone to get along. It’s the sign of partnership, diplomacy, and balance.

The Aries/Libra cycle of eclipses has invited you to look at where you stand on this spectrum:

  • What do you need to feel empowered in your relationships?
  • How do you advocate for yourself?
  • Where do you sacrifice your needs for the sake of maintaining harmony and peace?
  • Where do you over-compromise or refuse to compromise?

Depending on where Aries and Libra fall in your chart, this storyline could also pull in issues from other areas of life.

How to Work With the Eclipse

  • Most important: stay grounded and care for your nervous system
  • Look back at April 2023, to see what you started around that time. Whatever project or path you initiated then is coming to a close. If you’re still in it, how can you bring it to a close?
  • Review what came up in your life around the time of the other eclipses in this cycle to see whether there’s a story thread.

The eclipse timeline for this series:

  • April 20, 2023: solar eclipse at 29º Aries
  • October 14, 2023: solar eclipse at 21º Libra
  • March 25, 2024: lunar eclipse at 5º Libra
  • April 8, 2024: solar eclipse at 19º Aries
  • October 2, 2024: solar eclipse at 10º Libra
  • March 29, 2025: solar eclipse at 9º Aries
