Mercury in Aries: Speak Your Mind

March 3, 2025 | Renée Fishman

Get ready for mic drops and impulsive outbursts.

On March 3, 2025, Mercury — the planet of communications — enters fire sign Aries. It will be in Aries until March 29, but will eventually return

What does this mean for you?

What Mercury in Aries Means

In astrology, the planets represent archetypes within us. Mercury is the Messenger. Among other things, it’s the planet in charge of our speech, writing, messages, and how we communicate.

How it does executes its job depends on its environment — the sign in which it is currently residing.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and it’s ruled by Mars. Planets in Aries take initiative. They venture forth without a map, relying on courage, trust, and little bravado. Aries is a firey, impulsive sign, where we learn to operate on instinct. For better or worse, thinking things through is not the style of Aries; this sign’s motto might be “Ready. Fire. Aim.”

Mercury in Aries is a signature of direct and unflinching communication — no mincing words or beating around the bush. When Mercury is in Aries we are encouraged to put a damper on second guessing or doubts, and speak our minds.

If you’re prone to hold your tongue or weave your way around the point, Mercury in Aries invites you to be a little less circumspect before you speak.

The Catch to Mercury in Aries 2025

All that said, there’s a catch to Mercury in Aries this year.

As Mercury enters Aries, it’s not moving at its usual fast speed. It’s already starting to slow down in anticipation of going retrograde.

Mercury will station retrograde on March 15 at 9º35’ Aries — just 1 degree away from where Venus stationed retrograde on March 1. Mercury will follow Venus’ path back into Pisces before pausing to head forward again on April 7. It will return to Aries on April 16.

How to Work With Mercury in Aries

As Mercury zips into Aries, it leaves behind the soft poetry and discursive conversation it had in Pisces. Mercury in Aries encourages you to cut through the social niceties to speak your mind in a way that is direct and to the point.

Yet also be aware of how your words might burn others — or come back to burn you.

Mercury retrograde initiates a 3-week period of review about our messaging, communications, writing projects, and sales strategies.

Can you be sharp and pointed without injuring another person — or yourself?

In addition, watch what’s happening with Venus’ retrograde.

With Mercury following Venus’ path backward through Aries and back into Pisces, it will want to speak about what’s we’re discovering during our journey to the underworld.

It might help your process to speak up about what you’re discovering about how your values, and desires are changing.
